Despite facing his own ALS diagnosis, Steve exemplified resilience and determination, founding Team Gleason to enhance the lives of those impacted by this disease. Since its inception, Team Gleason has emerged as a leading non-profit provider of equipment and technology for individuals with ALS nationwide. Our mission is clear: to directly support the ALS community by ensuring access to the tools and resources necessary for navigating life with ALS. The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) is enrolling participants for the Speech Accessibility Project, an interdisciplinary initiative aimed at improving speech technology for people with diverse speech patterns and disabilities. Supported by Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta, and Microsoft, the project brings together technologists, researchers, and community organizations to create the speech data needed to make spoken interfaces more accessible for everyone. The Speech Accessibility Project is collecting speech samples from paid volunteers with a range of speech patterns.
