  • As part of the Prevent Blindness TED Art Therapy program, the TED Community is gifted an art therapist and session every other month - for all who have historically participated in this wonderful 8-week program. On Saturday, art therapist Emma directed us to make a kaleidoscope artwork as a way to look at our world from a different perspective. The experience was magical! Prevent Blindness is currently accepting applications for the fall session of TED Art Therapy. We highly recommend!! https://lnkd.in/g3xVg2js

Heartfelt thanks to our partner at Immunovant for sharing about the TED Community, via my story (Christine), during Graves Disease Awareness month. This article appeared throughout the country in major to minor media outlets. This is a tremendous boost to our outreach efforts! https://lnkd.in/gA8Kzejj

  • Graves' Disease Awareness Month Rocks! The TED Community Artists gathered together last Saturday to discuss and create "rock art" that captured the theme of "HOPE" for all those affected by Graves' disease, which includes nearly everyone with thyroid eye disease (TED). The blue rock was painted by Jacque, the director of TED ART, and the gold flowers were painted by Nancy Patterson, the founder of the Graves' Disease & Thyroid Foundation, also a member of the TED Community Organization. Nancy informed us that her GDATF is nearly 35 years strong!!

Twenty TED Artists. One Collaborative Quilt. With direction from our premier artist, Jacque, we created a collaborative quilt. We were to reflect on the loneliness that so many of us felt prior to finding the TED Community. And to use art to show what the experience of connection means to each of us. This quilt is a testament to the power of community, and friendship to heal, to uplift and to inspire others. Large version https://lnkd.in/gG2m3Ne4 Quilt created at our recent in-person TED Builders Workshop in May 2024.

Take Back Your Life! Do you feel like your life has been hi-jacked by TED? Perhaps your confidence level went from an "8" to a "1" with the onset of TED. You may have withdrawn from friends and family. Stopped dating. Or considered pivoting to an online job where you can hide out. Let's talk about it. Children, Cameras & Mirrors No problem? Or have you been challenged by looking in the mirror, the reactions of children if your appearance has been affected by TED … and the ever-present cameras?! Self-Compassion and Care Thinking about TED as an auto-immune, what are ways you can use self-care to encourage your own healing journey? Nutrition, Exercise, Sleep Hygiene, Mental Health practices, for example. On a final note: Community :o) *Adorable photo of Andre, Cynthia and Layla at the TED Builders Workshop in Chicago!

  • Reassuring report for TED Patients!!

  • Thyroid eye disease (TED) is isolating and is often accompanied by feelings of loneliness, profound anxiety and, at times, despair. It is natural to withdraw when one's face becomes disfigured, and many TED patients do. So it took tremendous courage for the 16 TED patients including 2 care partners to travel to Chicago for the TED Community Builders Workshop. Most importantly, we created a safe collaborative space to make this workshop a magical and memorable experience for everyone involved. We recorded the event in photos (link below) and hope you will enjoy our beautiful gallery and participant quotes ... with Love from the TED Community. https://lnkd.in/gn3DZgsH

  • Heartfelt thanks to the Amgen Patient Advocacy Team for sponsoring our first ever TED Community Builders Workshop. It was a beautiful experience, life-changing as someone pointed out, to be with each other - sharing ideas, practicing our storytelling skills, creating art together, speaking with Jeff Todd from Prevent Blindness, and participating in a peer-support group. The three days flew by, and according to the summary-evaluations, the event was a "10"! A special shout-out to BJ Viau (and his team = Daniel, Molly, and Maggie + Amy and Matt!!) at Amgen for believing in us and for all of the great work that made this event possible.
