Did you know today is Louise Thaden Day? In 1976, Governor David Pryor declared August 22 as Louise Thaden Day. ✈️ Louise was raised on a family farm, but a plane ride with a barnstormer in her youth cemented her desire to fly. She later became the first and only pilot to simultaneously hold the women’s records for speed, altitude, and solo endurance. She competed and won against Amelia Earhart and others in the first all-women’s transcontinental race, the National Women’s Air Derby in 1929. As Louise soared to new heights in aviation, we aim to soar to new heights in education! 🦉

Thaden School is a new independent school located in Bentonville, Arkansas. We opened in 2017 and will continue to grow incrementally to serve approximately 500 students in Grades 6 through 12. The school’s mission is to provide a balanced and challenging education that ignites in its students a passion for discovery and learning, prepares them to succeed in college, and inspires them to lead lives of integrity, purpose, and responsible global citizenship. Thaden offers a highly integrated curriculum; programs for civic engagement; creative and performing arts; athletics; and an innovative and sustainable campus with indoor and outdoor teaching spaces. The school’s Indexed Tuition program makes the cost of a Thaden education affordable for all families in Northwest Arkansas. The school is named in honor of Iris Louise McPhetridge Thaden (1905-1979), a Bentonville native and one of the greatest aviators of her time.

Kate T. '24 will attend the University of Arkansas's Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design this fall. At Thaden, Kate participated in many extracurriculars including volleyball and the pastry team, where she was captain for four years. She found her passions in the Meals and Reels signature programs and fostered her love of film and architecture during her academic journey. She credits Mr. Petrick, Dr. Bonnem, and Ms. King as the teachers who "have impacted her in so many different ways." Congratulations, Kate!
