61 years ago today, the March on Washington marked one of the largest mobilizations for racial equality in American history. This landmark march and protest was critical in advocating for the rights of Black folks and continues to be the blueprint for organization and mass mobilizations today!

Welcoming Ashley Monterrosa to The California Endowment's Board of Directors! ✊🌟 Monterrosa is a San Francisco native who has emerged as an educator, organizer, advocate, strategist, and storyteller. We look forward to having her as a tireless advocate for youth, especially those whose ideas, opinions, and potential have historically been devalued and underrepresented.

Valley fever is at a record high in California, primarily linked to rising temperatures and climate change—further proof that people of color and low-income folks are the first affected by environmental changes. Climate justice is health equity.

Today marks Women's Equality Day, which commemorates the day women were given the right to vote. While women can vote now, the struggle for gender equality continues across so many fronts: reproductive justice, trans rights, the wage gap, and so many more. We have so much to celebrate, but so much to fight for.

Happy Heavenly Birthday to Miss Marsha P. Johnson! ✊ Even though you're gone, your revolutionary teachings and wisdom still continue to pave the way for queer and trans folks everywhere. You teach us struggle, resilience, and belonging!

We're welcoming Edgar Ernesto Ibarra Guiterrez to The California Endowment's Board of Directors! He serves as the Communication and Leadership Coordinator at Motivating Individual Leadership for Public Advancement (MILPA). For the last five years, he's worked directly with communities impacted by mass incarceration through local and state policy advocacy, mentoring youth and young adults returning from incarceration through cultural healing programs focusing on Palabra (One’s Word) and cultural teachings. We're excited to have him on board and for his experiences to guide us as we change California community by community.

So many unhoused neighbors were once foster kids who aged out of the system—be kind! Our unhoused neighbors are just as deserving of life, happiness, and peace. Especially the youth.
