You’ve probably heard the phrase ‘smart cities,’ but may have wondered: What does this mean and why is it important? The journey to smart cities dates back to the 1970s with Los Angeles’ urban big data project, but one source cites Amsterdam as the first example of a smart city. Since that time, numerous cities around the nation and world have begun integrating technologies like these to improve the quality of life for residents: ✔️Sensors ✔️Artificial intelligence ✔️Internet of Things devices ✔️Cloud computing and big data Sure this technology SOUNDS cool, but what difference will it make? 👉🏻 Optimize resources 👉🏻 Increase transparency 👉🏻 Improve disaster response 👉🏻 Streamline city services 👉🏻 Improve waste management 👉🏻 Enhance energy management and transportation systems 👉🏻 Conduct predictive maintenance and monitoring of systems (just to name a few) It should come as no surprise, then, that so many cities are getting ‘smarter.’ 👉 What smart technologies have you seen Chattanooga deploy locally?
