Need good news? 👇 This year 2,500 women in their 70s won a landmark case for the environment. The women, from the climate advocacy group Senior Women for Climate Protection, argued that the Swiss government's failure to adequately mitigate global warming put their health and lives at risk due to heatwaves. Studies show that women over the age of 65 have heat-related death rates that can be up to 27% higher than other age groups. The women won the case in the European Court of Human Rights and this could spark similar cases in the future. “People are increasingly turning to courts to combat the climate crisis, holding governments and the private sector accountable and making litigation a key mechanism for securing climate action and promoting climate justice,” Inger Andersen Executive Director of UNEP said. https://lnkd.in/efzf6FW5 #environment #climatechange #climatejustice

The question is simple. "How do you want to be paid?" But how often is it asked? The Garment Worker Center, a workers' rights organization, asked garment workers in Los Angeles to share whether they prefer to be paid by a 'piece rate' model or minimum wage. For context, 'piece rate' is a payscale where factories pay garment workers per piece versus hourly. It's a common practice in the fashion industry, that results in salaries as low as $1.58 per hour. Compare that to California's minimum wage of $16. So, the answer it seems would be simple, but rarely is it asked.
