Everything was progressing normally in Jen's pregnancy. Later, though, an ultrasound revealed some concerns, and after baby Lexi was born, Jen and husband Jacob began to suspect the newborn may have health concerns. Watch Lexi's moving story. Jen and Jacob turned to their daughters' ThedaCare pediatrician, Dr. Jennifer Szmanda, to help guide them through Lexi's care. Jen and Jacob went on to learn that their youngest daughter had contracted a virus in utero and developed congenital CMV, which can lead to birth defects. This led them to Connected for Kids, a partnership between ThedaCare, Children's Wisconsin, and Bellin Health, bringing advanced care for kids closer to home. All of our boot camps offer current and transitioning high school students the opportunity to explore various health care careers. ThedaStar stopped by as well! Attendees engaged with health care professionals to learn about patient care, medical sciences and daily responsibilities across medical departments like Nursing, Therapy, Finance, Emergency Room, Clinic Setting, Dietary, Housekeeping, Lab, Respiratory Lab, Peri-Op, and Imaging.

Construction is underway on a new, sustainable health campus in Fond du Lac. The combined health system of Froedtert ThedaCare Health, Inc., broke ground on the health campus in February 2024. The campus aims to expand convenient access to care to the community and features innovative geothermal technology. Last week, Matt Wille, had the honor of speaking at the Rotary Club of Neenah. This event provided a valuable opportunity to share updates and stay connected with community leaders. During his presentation, Matt highlighted our mission and rich history of nearly 115 years of service to our communities. He explained our services and recent modernization efforts in Neenah, our combination with Froedtert Health – demonstrating our commitment to reinventing the future of health care in Wisconsin, and discussed the development of our future health campuses. This event also gave Matt an opportunity to network, listen and receive valuable insights and feedback from community leaders about their needs. We're proud of the strong relationships we have built, and we remain committed to serving our communities with excellence, demonstrating our commitment to improving the health and well-being of our communities by empowering each person to live their unique, best life.

This week, the ThedaCare Family of Foundations hosted the 22nd annual High Flyin’ Golf Outing. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our partners and attendees, we raised over $176,000 for Cancer Care Research! Your support plays a vital role in ensuring top-quality care for cancer patients like Brian. In the summer of 2017, Brian's routine plasma donation led to an unexpected discovery: an abnormal result indicated he needed further testing. Referred to a hematologist, Brian was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, an incurable cancer. Despite the diagnosis, he embraced his journey and found peace. For three years, Brian's cancer was in a smoldering stage, present but without symptoms. During his quarterly checkups, his numbers began to rise, leading to the start of chemotherapy in 2020. With determination, Brian completed his treatment early. His doctor then offered an innovative treatment option, and in 2021, Brian underwent a successful stem cell harvest and transplant. His motivation, partly fueled by a putting green he found in the hall, helped him push through physical therapy. A turning point came when his doctor reassured him that he was receiving the latest technology and best care, and because his cancer was caught early, he would be okay. Brian enrolled in a two-year clinical trial, and his biopsy showed no signs of cancer. Today, Brian is in remission and only under surveillance. He credits his positive attitude, faith, and determination for his success. With continued research, we can treat more patients, work toward a cure, and provide exceptional care to individuals like Brian.
