Of the 982 House bills (HB) and 509 Senate bills (SB) introduced to the LA legislature this session, 601 bills were passed and have been signed into law by or are awaiting approval from the Governor. On Monday I had the immense pleasure of testifying to the congressional Natural Resource Sub-Committee on oversight and investigations. During the nearly two hours I spoke about the deep challenges around putting IIJA funds to use, the deep importance of community engagement, as well as the water justice policies we need today. It's a huge milestone to not only be selected to speak in front of congress but also lend my voice to the conversation regarding environmental justice and water rights. 5 years into my work, and I excited to say that I'm making a big splash (pun intended). I was told that by many people watching from home and in the room that they loved what I brought to the conversation. Hopefully this will be the first of many... As a proud Louisiana woman, I can't say how happy I am to represent my state on the issue of water on a national stage. Thank you to everyone who supported me through this journey thus far. It truly takes a village! Thank you to congessswoman Melanie Stansbury for inviting me to speak on this important issue. Thank you to the #TaprootEarth team for supporting me in my preparations.
