Your refractory partner. In the past few weeks, our team has successfully handled two critical emergencies, showcasing our commitment to safety, efficiency and excellence. Customer # 1 called us on a Thursday afternoon facing a complete failure of their reformer roof which caused them to have to shut down the unit for an emergency repair. Despite the challenging circumstances we were able to design a new Z-BLOK lining, manufacture it, mobilize crews and have them onsite by the following Monday morning to start the repair and get them back up and running in the shortest time possible. Customer # 2 called on a Friday with a significant hotspot on the side of the cyclone on their CFB which also caused them to shut down at the worst time possible and again the Thorpe team was able to design a repair, manufacture the Z-BLOK, mobilize the crews and start the repair on Sunday safely finishing the job in record time. Having worked in this industry for three decades, I was initially skeptical about the feasibility of such rapid solutions. However, our team's dedication and expertise prevailed, delivering efficient repairs and substantial cost savings for our valued customers. These recent successes highlight our unwavering commitment to excellence, setting us apart from competitors and establishing us as leaders in the industry. Corrosion Experts For almost 70 years the Thorpe name has been synonymous with quality refractory engineering and services, but did you know that we also do In-House Acid Plant Lining Design and Installation? It’s no secret that Acid Plant linings are inherently challenging due to the corrosive nature of the operations, equipment size and geometry, complex connections, and the critically important temperature and mechanical issues involved. For those reasons, refractory and acid contractors must have a thorough understanding of the corrosive effects on both steel and refractory materials, the thermal profiles through the lining and the mechanical stability of the construction. Thorpe carries an extensive and effective history installing various acid brick and tile systems, with and without underlying corrosion membranes. Typical materials include Type I and Type II fireclay brick, red shale acid brick, carbon brick and tiles. These materials are used in conjunction with their appropriate chemical-resistant mortars, normally over a corrosion-resistant membrane.
