  • Mitigating Risk in Digital Peer Support Communities 🎓💬 Digital peer support is emerging as a crucial component of student mental health services. But how can institutions ensure that these online spaces remain safe and supportive? 🤔 In this article, Ben Locke, Ph.D., reflects on the necessity of risk management within digital peer-to-peer communities like Togetherall. The benefits are clear - students feel more connected, empowered, and supported - but without proper safeguards, the risks can outweigh the rewards. Key considerations for success include: 🔸 Anonymity that encourages openness, but with guardrails to prevent misuse.  🔸 A supportive community fostered by clinical moderators.  🔸 Clear safeguarding policies to protect those at risk and ensure appropriate interventions. Togetherall’s model of 24/7 clinical moderation ensures a compassionate, secure space where students can safely engage in meaningful conversations. 👉 Read the full article to explore how universities and institutions can harness digital peer support while mitigating risks: https://lnkd.in/eWzrn2hj #MentalHealth #HigherEd #DigitalSupport #RiskManagement #Togetherall #PeerSupport

🚨 NEW COLLABORATION 🚨   We are thrilled to welcome Boston University’s (BU) more than 36,000 students to the Togetherall community! Students at BU can now access a safe, anonymous, online mental health resource, through which they can give and get support from a global community of peers.    Kara Cattani, Ph.D., Director of Behavioral Medicine at BU, shared why she and her team found Togetherall such a viable option for BU students:    “Through its reputable online peer support community, Togetherall will offer all BU students (including students who are studying abroad or enrolled in online degree programs) 24/7 access to a great mental health support tool. A few key reasons we decided to partner with Togetherall are:   🔹 It's global and diverse partnering institutions will allow for connecting students with peers across the globe with diverse backgrounds and experiences 🔹 The fact that the platform is clinically moderated; trained therapists help maintain a supportive environment by monitoring interactions, ensuring adherence to community guidelines, and intervening when necessary to assist with any crises.  🔹 The research which suggests that peer support is a preferred form of help-seeking among historically underserved student populations.”     Read more about our new collaboration: https://lnkd.in/eFjTM7_5   #Boston #highered #peersupport #university

👏 Congrats to our Chief Clinical Officer, Ben Locke, Ph.D., and his legacy team at the Center for Collegiate Mental Health (CCMH) at Penn State on their revolutionary work developing the Clinical Load Index (CLI). After six years of putting this tool into practice, the results are now published in the Journal of College Student Mental Health. The CLI has been adopted by many colleges and universities across the US in determining treatment capacity and where they should employ certain tactics, like a population-level approach mental health strategy. 👇 Check out Dr. Locke’s post to read more! 👇

"A vexing problem for decades, determining sufficient staffing levels for college and university counseling centers has become an increasingly urgent concern for higher education administrators at all levels.." Six years ago, the Center for Collegiate Mental Health (CCMH) at Penn State team began developing the Clinical Load Index (CLI) as a new tool to provide reliable and comparative guidance on mental-health staffing levels for college and universities. Last week, the results of that work was published in the Journal of College Student Mental Health. HUGE thanks to the hundreds of counseling centers (and individual staff!) that contributed data to CCMH year after year, to Brett Scofield, Rebecca Janis, and Alaina Cummins for all of your efforts on this project, to the leadership of both AUCCCD and IACS for your organizational support and encouragement, and a special heartfelt thanks to Christopher Flynn (past president of IACS), Sharon Mitchell (past president at AUCCCD) and Peter LeViness (past board member and research chair with AUCCCD) who could see the promise and helped us to get the design right. The CLI is an intuitive & open-access metric that can immediately improve your institution's understanding of mental health services and help you chart your strategic plan. If you're involved in college student mental health, this is a must read - and please also take time to dive into the CCMH/CLI resources here: https://ccmh.psu.edu/cli and stay tuned for the 2023-2024 CLI Distribution in October. It has been a joy to continue working on this manuscript even after moving onto Togetherall in pursuit of the next generation of scalable mental-health solutions. Without any doubt, the Center for Collegiate Mental Health (CCMH) at Penn State, and all the good people it represents, remains very close to my heart. Thanks again to everyone who helped to make this possible! #collegiatementalhealth #highereducation

  • 🚨 NEW COLLABORATION 🚨   We are excited to announce that 112,000 students at 12 Universities of Wisconsin can now access digital peer support. In partnership with Mantra Health, students at these 12 institutions are able to tap into an online mental health resource where they can give and get anonymous support from a global community of peers 24/7/365.     “Implementing a comprehensive mental health strategy for a large system like the Universities of Wisconsin, means adopting a ‘both-and’ mindset and embracing the idea that mental-health concerns are universal. ‘Both-and’ refers to the importance of providing your entire population with immediate, 24/7, mobile access to mental health supports (i.e., Togetherall), which can work hand-in hand with traditional one-to-one treatment services.”   - Ben Locke, Ph.D., Chief Clinical Officer, Togetherall     👉 Read more about our new collaboration: https://lnkd.in/eYh-KKca    #Wisconsin #highered #peersupport #digitalmentalhealth
