Our Pulmonary Services team recently organized and hosted Lungevity: Fortifying the Core of Respiratory Care, a symposium that showcased the work of our fantastic respiratory therapists. Presented in collaboration with the California Society for Respiratory Care (CSRC), the event hosted 95 guests, featured six speakers and offered seven continuing education credits. “This symposium brought together around 100 of Northern California’s foremost respiratory therapists for a day of unparalleled professional development, innovation, and networking. We are committed to advancing the field of respiratory care through cutting-edge research, shared expertise, and collaborative learning,” said Leslie Chesher, pulmonary services supervisor. “This symposium not only highlights our dedication to improving patient outcomes but also strengthens our collective resolve to elevate the standards of respiratory therapy across the region.”

We are excited to share that Ryan Cello, PharmD, has been named a Fellow of the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists (ASHP)! As pharmacy Manager, Ryan oversees the Diversion, Analytics, Informatics, and Automation (DAIA) team, driving advancements in patient care through innovative technology and data analytics. His leadership has been instrumental in developing systems that enhance medication safety and efficiency, reflecting his dedication to excellence in health care delivery. Ryan's commitment to the pharmacy profession extends beyond UC Davis Health. As a Director at Large for ASHP, he plays a crucial role in shaping the future of pharmacy informatics and technology. His involvement in strategic discussions and initiatives at ASHP demonstrates his passion for improving the field and his expertise as a thought leader. A new, updated #COVID vaccine is on the way. Today is National Surgical Oncologist Day, a day to celebrate and honor the doctors who dedicate their careers to prolonging the lives of cancer patients! The American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC) has designated our colorectal surgery program a Surgical Quality Partner! The award is given to programs that excel in quality of care, preventing complications, saving lives and reducing costs. "UC Davis Health was one of the first institutions in the country to get this designation and remains the only university-based NAPRC accredited program in Northern California,” said chief of colorectal surgery Ankit Sarin. “Our reaccreditation, under the leadership of Assistant Professor Miquell Miller, is a testament to our continued commitment to the highest quality of care for our cancer patients." A terminal disease took away Casey’s speech. But our researchers have restored his ability to communicate – in his own voice. Sergey Stavisky and David Brandman, MD, PhD’s team developed a new brain-computer interface (BCI). Now, electrodes implanted in Casey’s brain allow him to “speak” through a computer with the sounds of his own voice. The BCI translates brain signals into speech with up to 97% accuracy — the most accurate system of its kind. The groundbreaking study appears this week in the NEJM Group.
