The financial markets continue to post handsome returns and are pointing towards an economic “soft landing.” Recent economic information supports that outlook, but several leading indicators show that we are not necessarily out of the woods yet. The Fed’s tightening campaign is just beginning to bite into economic activity, and we foresee an economic slowdown during the second half of the year. It's been a packed summer over here at UMB's Kansas City headquarters! The Young Professionals and SOMOS Business Resource Groups (BRGs) hosted a joint coffee chat where members enjoyed local Agua frescas, concha pastries and networking. The B-EPIC BRG hosted a Juneteenth celebration where associates checked out local Black owned vendors, grabbed lunch and celebrated the holiday. The Veterans and Abilities BRGs joined forces to present a lunch & learn featuring Johnny Neal from VCP and Justin Hoover with The Battle Within to share their experiences working through their mental health, as well as how they now help others in the mental health space. Our Interns had the opportunity to volunteer at the School of Economics, where they helped students engage in real-world learning. #LifeatUMB #UMBHeart

More than half the loans are held in collateralized loan obligations (#CLOs), while other loan portfolios are widely held among different structures, including business development companies (#BDCs), mutual funds, hedge funds and separately managed accounts. On the blog, we share key areas for investment managers to explore during the selection process, drawn from our team’s experience working across all vehicle types. https://bit.ly/3xAXPgi

“When making a withdrawal from traditional 401(k)s and IRAs, you’ll be expected to pay income tax on each one,” said Kim Gattis, senior vice president and financial planning manager at UMB Bank. “With the help of tax strategies, you can minimize what the government takes from you. These strategies include moving to a state that doesn’t charge income tax, delaying receipt of benefits until age 70 and reassessing your investment holdings.” Learn more about the expenses many retirees forget to plan for.
