Great success story from our Econolite team🎉 In early 2024, Utah Department of Transportation began developing a Battery Backup System (BBS) for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Designed to operate in extreme conditions for at least four hours, this system highlights UDOT’s dedication to mobility and safety. Utah’s diverse climate and geography required a solution that could handle temperatures from 0° to 140°F, integrate with solar arrays, and require minimal maintenance over a five-to-eight-year lifespan. In collaboration with Brigham Young University, UDOT tested Econolite’s ZX graphene Super Capacitor. It exceeded expectations with up to 9.25 hours of runtime, maintenance-free operation, and a 30-year lifespan. This innovative solution, now being implemented statewide, reduces traditional battery maintenance costs and boosts reliability during power outages.
