On a mission to replace political fighting with problem solving
Über uns
Our mission is to shift American culture and national decision-making away from political fighting toward problem solving, away from conflict toward consensus. We are setting out to conduct an experiment to see if a million Americans, from all walks of life, can identify a set of solutions, by consensus, to achieve a national goal shared by us all…and then become the lobbying force to make their own agreed-upon solutions a reality. Coming out of that experience, we believe Americans will have a vision for how to start to dramatically reform our system of representative government. It begins with identifying national goals shared by nearly all Americans. If that sounds impossible in these divisive times, well, it turns out Americans largely agree on our highest aspirations for our country. We disagree only on tactics. We disagree about gun control, but most of us hope for less violence. We disagree about ObamaCare, but most of us want high-quality, affordable health care for everyone. We disagree about the ethics of the death penalty, but few of us want to see innocent people behind bars or put to death. Unify America is working to help us see that we are far more unified than we believe, and that THERE IS A WAY to address our greatest, most intractable problems in a spirit of unity and cooperation.

Think it’s impossible to have a productive conversation about polarizing issues with someone from a different political party? Angelica from Georgia State University and Mason from Lone Star College thought the same thing—until they participated in the Unify Challenge College Bowl. They were surprised to find that not only was it possible, but they actually enjoyed the experience, connecting over their shared goals and beliefs for our country. College students across the U.S. are having these powerful conversations, strengthening their civic engagement skills, and preparing themselves to be active, thoughtful citizens. Want your students to experience it, too? Tomorrow is the last day to sign up for the Fall 2024 College Bowl: https://hubs.li/Q02PKTnB0 #Civics #Education #College #HigherEd #ConversationsAcrossDifference #UnifyAmerica

The Unify America College Bowl is revolutionizing civic engagement at Miami Dade College and beyond! With participants from freshman to lifelong learners, this program brings meaningful conversations into the classroom, connecting students across diverse backgrounds. Just ask Professor Harold Alexander Silva — he found it so valuable that he wrote a short essay on why it’s a must for educators. In today’s polarized world, real dialogue is essential. The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) surveys students each year about their views on Free Speech on Campus. In their 2024 report, over half of the students expressed concerns about facing backlash for being misunderstood, and more than a quarter steer clear of discussing controversial topics in class. This climate of political polarization is stifling productive discourse and hindering the development of collaborative problem-solving skills that future generations will need. But alongside hundreds of universities and thousands of students, we're out to change that narrative. #UnifyAmerica
