Since 1985, Urban Dreams has been providing Des Moines' inner city with a wide range of human service programs in a comfortable and non-threatening environment. Just as the problems that plague the inner city continue to evolve, Urban Dreams continues to change to meet them. Urban Dreams offers programs that are in tune to the unique issues affecting Polk County's economically depressed areas. Programs including information and referral and ex-offender support have been just two of the services that Urban Dreams offers at no cost. Located in the heart of Des Moines' inner city, Urban Dreams is accessible to those who need it most. This area leads Polk County in high school drop out rates, ex-offender residency, gang participation, abandoned property, overall crime rates, and other problems too numerous to mention. Urban Dreams has served as an urban social services training ground for counselors and social workers, some of whom have gone on to start their own organizations. Urban Dreams works closely with area churches, Polk County government, area colleges and universities, and numerous other organizations and businesses mutually committed to the betterment of the community. Thank you Molina Healthcare Dwight Jackson, MPA, CI-SHRM, OWDS Hi Dwight, I wanted to take a moment to compliment Urban Dreams. I was invited to bring some Molina info and items to Urban Dreams by our Molina Employment Specialist Inger Hall, I was so impressed by your staff and volunteers' interaction with the folks showing up for the food pantry. Everyone who came through the door was treated like an old friend, I couldn't believe how comfortable the staff made this interaction that can sometimes be hard for people who are not used to needing help. The commitment to keeping people in our community from going hungry was evident and I am so grateful I got the opportunity to see what real impact Urban Dreams has, not just giving out the food but supporting these people emotionally and sending them off with a warm feeling as opposed to shame . In return the folks receiving items from the pantry were very receptive to the information Molina was providing and we were able to connect with some of our members and also some potential members. All in all this was by far one of the best outreach opportunities that I have been a part of. I am so excited to partner with Urban Dreams on a regular basis to provide your clients with the info they need to get the most out of their healthcare plan.
