Insights from the Nonprofit Townhall meeting - Camarillo: I had the privilege of attending an insightful Nonprofit Townhall co-hosted by Assemblymember Steve Bennett and State Senator Monique Limón, in partnership with the CLU Center for Nonprofit Leadership, Ventura County Community Foundation, and Ventura County Office of Education. We delved into state budget updates and their impact on the nonprofit community. A special thanks to Dena Jenson for moderating the panelists who shared their expertise on issue advocacy and organizational priorities: Linda Braunschweiger, CEO, Housing Trust Fund Ventura County Geoff Green, CEO, Cal Nonprofits, Nicki Parr, CEO, Women's Economic Ventures, Mike Silacci, Chief Philanthropy & Community Engagement Officer, Ventura County Community Foundation, and Kelly Brown, Community Information Officer, Interface Children & Family Services. It was also wonderful reconnecting with few of my VCLA (Ventura County Leadership Academy) Cohort 28 classmates, Gerry Pantoja, MA, CFRE and Tammie Helmuth. A few key takeaways: Senator Limón highlighted, “The nonprofit sector is the 4th largest employer in California.” Linda reminded us, “Go out of your silo.” Nicki emphasized, “…Say what you stand for.” Mike echoed his late father’s wisdom: “You have to get along with people to get things done.” and Geoff encouraged us to be great partners. The Ventura County Family Justice Center Foundation Inc. hosted their Voices of Hope Gala last month, and VCCF was honored as one of three of their "local heroes," in addition to Dr. Thomas Duncan and Hon. Brian J. Back. VCCF was named Community Advocate of the Year for our work with VCFJC on the Tiny Homes Project. Vice President & Chief Financial and Operating Officer Bonnie Gilles and Board secretary Leah Lacayo accepted the award and spoke at the event.
