Facilitating a network of support for military and veteran spouses and families.

Über uns

The Veteran Spouse Network (VSN) began in January 2015 as an online and in-person forum for veteran spouses throughout Texas to become engaged in defining resources and programming for themselves and their families. Today, the VSN has grown to a network of over 800 spouses across Texas. As we move forward, we continue to grow members and partners, offering opportunities for spouses to connect, share resources and offer ongoing support and guidance within their community and throughout the state, and across the country. Our work is influenced by the understanding that Veteran families rely on strong communities to support each other while facing their unique challenges. Veteran spouses, this is your network. This network is meant to incorporate your input, voice and perspectives. We strongly encourage you to become involved! The network is designed to include members from across the state of Texas either by accessing this website, our Facebook page, by participating in our programs, or by meeting up with local members to find support and share relevant resources. As our network continues to grow, it is our hope that it will be influenced by its members and will become the resource that its members need it to be. We are here to help build it and identify programming and events that you want to see more of in your area, or in the state. Please do not hesitate to contact us with your input and ideas on how to make this network what you want it to be!

It’s important to understand that #grief is a deeply personal experience, and it's okay to feel a range of emotions like sadness 😢, anger 😡, guilt😞, and emptiness😔. These feelings can also bring physical symptoms such as fatigue, changes in appetite, and difficulty sleeping. It's important to know that seeking help is a positive step towards understanding and navigating through these emotions. Remember, there's no right or wrong way to grieve, and the #support of friends, family, and mental health professionals can make a significant difference. Please be patient with yourself, as 💝 healing from grief takes time. With the right support, many people find ways to move forward with a renewed sense of #purpose and connection. 🎉 We are so proud of our directors, Elisa Borah and Hannah OBrien, for presenting at the VA and DSOP Suicide Prevention Conference last week!

We at the Veteran Spouse Network were honored to present at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs / Defense Suicide Prevention Office (DSPO) Suicide Prevention Conference in Portland this week. Hannah OBrien and I shared how VSN is preparing veteran spouses and family members to engage in suicide prevention and crisis response with evidence-based training and peer support. We are so thankful for the support from Face The Fight and USAA that has made this work possible. A few takeaways from our session: After training, 85% strongly agreed, "I am confident in my ability to respond when I suspect an individual may be at elevated risk for suicide." 83% strongly agreed, "I am comfortable asking individuals direct and open questions about suicidal thoughts and behaviors." Asked what other support and information bout suicide prevention they need: -65% want more information on crisis response procedures and de-escalation techniques -46% want more information on supporting the care of individuals at risk for suicide -44% want more information on the epidemiology and the latest research findings related to suicide. Family members are critical frontline partners in veteran suicide prevention. We are excited to continue to work with our referring and strategic partners Forge Health, Avalon Action Alliance, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Blue Star Families, Endeavors, Texas Health and Human Services to expand this work and prepare families to Face the Fight.

🚨 Youth mental health is a vital concern that demands our attention!! 🚨 The impact of academic pressure and social media on the mental well-being of young individuals cannot be overlooked. We must prioritize #mentalhealth education in schools 🚸, foster safe spaces for open discussions, and promote community involvement. By placing importance on #youth mental health, we can pave the way for a healthier future, and #empower young people to flourish. ✳️ Don't forget to SHARE, SAVE, and 💬 TALK with the youth in your lives!!
