Opening the doors of Opportunity The Women’s Business Enterprise Council East (WBEC East) is a purchasing council for certified women’s business enterprises (WBEs). The Council provides WBENC women business enterprise certification as well as educational, networking, procurement-related, and informational programs and services that foster growth and business opportunities between WBEs and purchasing entities, including major corporations and government agencies. WBEC East also is the third-party certifier of women-owned businesses for the City of Philadelphia, the State of Pennsylvania and the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Women-Owned Small Business Program. This honor is awarded to an employee of a WBEC-East corporate or government partner in good standing who has done the most to promote business opportunities for WBENC-certified WBEs. As the Supplier Diversity Program Manager at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Marcia is responsible for leading and supporting all aspects of supplier diversity across the CHOP Enterprise (inclusive of the CHOP Philadelphia Campus, King of Prussia Campus, and 70+ Ambulatory Sites) in support of organizational strategic goals. Marcia closely partners with various departments within CHOP, including Supply Chain, the Office of Diversity Equity and Inclusion, the Office of Community Engagement, clinical and support service departments, and other leaders, and she partners and works closely with external organizations and vendors. In just three years, the program has increased the diverse spend percentage from 4% of all CHOP spend to over 18%!
