Latrobe Community Revitalization Program Takes Action Against Blight! The LCRP recently purchased a condemned building on Ligonier St., marking a significant step in their citywide effort to combat blight. They plan to demolish the structure and redevelop the site for future use. This is part of a larger initiative to revitalize Latrobe through new construction and renovations. Studies have shown that vacant, abandoned, blighted properties can reduce housing market values by up to 20% in affected areas. Additionally, blighted properties often generate little or no tax revenue, contributing to a loss of funds that could be used for public services and infrastructure, while causing municipalities to incur additional costs for services like code enforcement, trash removal, and security to address the problems associated with blighted properties. Blighted properties can also contribute to increased crime rates, reduced property values, and a decline in overall neighborhood quality of life.
