The Wisconsin State Patrol is the highway patrol for the state of Wisconsin and is a division of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. We enforce traffic and criminal laws, oversee the motor carrier safety and weight facilities (SWEFs), inspect and regulate motor carriers, school buses, and ambulances, and assist local law enforcement agencies with response to incidents as needed.

Today marks the 52nd anniversary of Trooper Pederson’s line-of-duty-death. On August 26, 1972, Trooper Donald Pederson, 31 years of age and a six-year veteran with the Wisconsin State Patrol made the ultimate sacrifice when he lost his life in the line of duty while working traffic patrol in Green Lake County. Trooper Pederson sustained fatal injuries when he was ambushed and shot by a 16-year-old he had stopped and cited earlier in the evening. . . . #NeverForgotten

Inspections include the mechanical equipment, steering, brakes, wheels, tires and structural components. The campaign aims to educate about the dangers and consequences of impaired driving. Trooper Barker has a nose for safety during the dog days of summer! Thankfully, no one was harmed when he was called to assist this warm pup-in-a-truck at a rest area during one of Wisconsin’s recent warmer days. REMINDER: Keep everyone safe when temperatures are on the rise. Never leave a pet or child in a vehicle unattended, and make it a habit to look in the back seat every time you exit the car.
