"A new report reveals that Boston ranks among the highest in the nation for homelessness, driven by sky-high housing costs. Boston Indicators, the research center at the The Boston Foundation, found that Greater Boston has the second-highest per capita homelessness rate out of the 45 largest cities or Continuums of Care in the country. Boston was only behind New York City, with 801 homeless per 100,000 residents. (New York’s rate is 1,056 homeless per 100,000 residents.)" A surprise donation from ⚡Metallica⚡ (yes, that Metallica!) made our week! Thank you to All Within My Hands Foundation (Metallica) for selecting Women's Lunch Place as one of three non-profit gift recipients following two packed shows at Gillette. We couldn't be more proud. Join us in celebrating the incredible achievements of three key members of our Advocacy team, whose relentless dedication and hard work have earned them well-deserved promotions! These team members have gone above and beyond in assisting our guests with housing, stability, and overall well-being: Doris Romero has been elevated to Associate Director of Housing and Advocacy Services, Maya Dixon (pictured here) is now our Housing & Stabilization Manager, and Imani Jones has stepped up as our new Senior Advocate! Doris, Maya, and Imani are beacons of compassion and patience, expertly navigating the complex bureaucracies that constrict the women we serve. These promotions are a testament to their valuable leadership and consistent success in supporting guests who find themselves in desperate situations. We couldn't be prouder of them for their remarkable accomplishments and shared commitment to carrying the Advocacy department to new heights. Team WLP is gearing up for the annual Ride for Food on Sunday, October 6th, a fundraising event that has, to date, raised over $4.2 million to fight hunger and food insecurity in our region. Awarded twice each year, The Boston Foundation's Safety Net Grants provide two-year, $50,000 grants to support social service organizations that respond to essential needs of marginalized communities and vulnerable residents in Greater Boston. More than 160 organizations applied for funding in this round, and Women's Lunch Place was selected among 20 winning organizations! We are honored that our work to meet the essential needs of vulnerable women in our community has been recognized through this community-led process. At WLP, our individualized approach begins by providing healthy nutrition, hygiene, and safety in a gender-specific environment, and other critical services to our guests. This allows us to build trust and rapport, which often leads to more complex work in our Wellness and Advocacy programs. Across all our services, our motto remains: Dignity is Everything.
