YouthCare's Orion Center is now part of King County’s forward-thinking initiative to provide life-saving resources to vulnerable youth. As one of four selected locations, the center now houses a harm reduction vending machine offering free, anonymous access to vital supplies like naloxone, fentanyl test strips, safer sex kits, and hygiene products. Behind the scenes with YouthGrow at the Columbia City Farmers Market 🌽🥕🌿🌻🍅🥬✨ YouthGrow is an eight-week program where young people learn the art of gardening, landscaping, and food production, all while gaining critical employment skills and continuing their secondary education. The program is offered to young people ages 15-21 and runs in collaboration with Seattle Public Schools Interagency Academy. YouthGrow students have been working hard all spring and summer to grow, harvest, and sell produce at the Columbia City Farmers Market. Visit us on Wednesdays from 3-7pm in August to support these young people on their path to stability. The fruits of their labor are abundant!

Sometimes the littlest things make the biggest impact. A toothbrush and toothpaste are simple items, but to a young person experiencing homelessness, they can make a world of difference. Thank you to our partners at Delta Dental of Washington for ensuring that every young person, no matter their circumstance, has access to dental hygiene products. 🪥

Volunteers are the heartbeat of YouthCare. Without them, we could not do the vital work of helping young people in crisis. With them, we can end youth homelessness. It takes a village, and we are grateful that the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is a part of ours. On Friday, the Orion Center hosted a Summer Field Day, complete with a water balloon toss, potato sack races, tug of war, dodgeball, kickball, football, corn hole, water balloon fights, and hanging out in the sun! Big shout out to FATS CHICKEN & WAFFLES LLC for supporting this event - the food was amazing! These kinds of days create lifelong memories for the youth that we serve.
