    Numerous studies have been conducted examining personality and leader-follower relationships. However, there are additional opportunities to focus on follower attributes and personalities contributing toward greater relationship quality, affect (reciprocated friendship), loyalty (public display of support), contribution (effort), and professional respect.     Numerous studies have been conducted examining personality and leader-follower relationships. However, there are additional opportunities to focus on follower attributes and personalities contributing toward greater relationship quality, affect (reciprocated friendship), loyalty (public display of support), contribution (effort), and professional respect. This study investigated 500 working adults to gain further insights into the influences on leader-follower relationships. High trust relationships lead to reciprocated respect and commitments. Low quality relationships led to employee distrust, lack of commitment, and lack of support. The results reveal different aspects of follower personality, education, organizational tenure, and ethnicity impacting Leader-Member Relationship Quality (LMX). This empirical study provides inferential results and workplace recommendations for leaders and subordinates to have higher quality relationships that lead to overall better outcomes.

  • Leadership and Worker Job Satisfaction: A Synthesis of 22 Meta-analyses (Part II)

    Expansion on 2019's findings:

    22 meta-analyses represent 1,304 effect sizes from a total sample size of 487,796 participants. While there are strong meta-analytic effect sizes for all three categories of leader behaviors, relationship-oriented behaviors are strongly related to worker job satisfaction more frequently in this body of literature than task or bad/destructive leadership.

    Abstract:

    Abstract: Many studies have been conducted examining transformational leadership in the academic arena, but there are opportunities to look at colleges in the south Texas region. This study looked at 515 undergraduate students from several south Texas colleges to gain further insight into the relationships between professor transformational leadership style and student satisfaction. The results show different aspects of transformational leadership were important predictors of different types of student satisfaction ratings. This empirical study provides both inferential results and recommendations for techniques on adjusting academic leadership in the classroom to increase overall student satisfaction.
