    The Acoustic Levitator Optimization Project is an ongoing joint project between the electrical and mechanical engineering students from the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) and the Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) to study the concept of acoustic levitation and to design devices capable of producing levitation. These acoustic levitation devices will be used for x-ray spectroscopy of substances at Argonne’s Advanced Photon Source Laboratory.

    The Acoustic Levitator Optimization Project is an ongoing joint project between the electrical and mechanical engineering students from the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) and the Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) to study the concept of acoustic levitation and to design devices capable of producing levitation. These acoustic levitation devices will be used for x-ray spectroscopy of substances at Argonne’s Advanced Photon Source Laboratory.

    The objective of this project is to optimize the high frequency three-axis acoustic levitator to allow a water droplet of 100 micrometers in diameter. For the project to be successful, the levitator must be able to maintain steady state conditions for at least five minutes and allow for continuous system operation of at least fifteen minutes.

  • Formula Hybrid

    For our first year on the Formula Hybrid team we participated on the firewall, brake, and tire teams. Over the school year we did extensive material testing, safety inspections, calculations. For the Firewall team we had to prove that the material for our firewall was proficient in all of the Formula Hybrid standards. We also went through the rules and meticulously tested all aspects of driver safety to ensure we would pass mechanical inspection, in fact at competition judges noted how quickly…

This year for the brake and tire teams we researched and did calculations to best predict our center of mass, tire grip, and brake pressure. I also redesigned and fabricated a new dashboard to improve functionality and efficiency of our dashboard.

    This year we took 4th place out of 13 in the Hybrid Vehicle Class. A personal best for MSOE.
