“I had the opportunity to work with Kim on a Revenue Cycle project at Advocate Health Care. Kim demonstrated both a strong theoretical model to guide the training efforts for our clinical teams as well as a savvy implementation mindset when trying to determine exactly what training modalities would be feasible to deploy across our different clinical groups. I would not hesitate to call on Kim to deploy an enterprise-wide educational initiative involving health information technology.”

How can you facilitate tough conversations in a group setting?
Whether I schedule a meeting to address a tough topic or find myself facilitating an unexpected Crucial Conversation meeting, I find that taking a "timeout" and identifying shared purpose helps to reduce defensiveness and debate. Pro Tip! Start as many sentences as you can with "We all want ___." This helps people focus on their shared goals rather than fighting to win.

I had the privilege of working with Bob Cialdini, the author of Influence, as a Research Assistant. At the time, he was the most cited living social psychologist on earth because all of his research on compliance was used across the advertising, marketing, sales, communications, business, and psychology disciplines.
