Mentors are successful professionals, including alumni and community partners who share their experiences and valuable life lessons with their mentees. A Mentee is a student who is ready to plan for his or her future and would benefit from the wisdom of a mentor. Mentors and Mentees work together to establish and meet the goals they set.

The Pesce Family Mentoring Institute was made possible through a generous gift by Board of Trustee member William Pesce and his family to the William Paterson University Foundation. We all know the mission of the original Knights Templar was to protect the traveling Christian pilgrims and defend the Holy sites of Israel. The Templars were strong in their beliefs and were known for their military prowess and their ability to protect and defend.

While we are not able to do that in the physical sense today, we can accomplish that mission of protecting and defending Christians by using today's methods; partnering with an organization that does support and give aid to persecuted Christians.

Along with our monthly monetary commitment, our members assist Open Doors USA® by sending post cards and writing emails to persecuted Christians across the world, as well as being advocates and social media influencers for the organization.

Although there are a variety of worthy Christian charities with which to become involved, Open Doors
It will take men and women with the courage of true knights to stand up and be counted. Taking a stand for what is right in our families, community, and nation. It means being part of an ancient Holy order that has been around for 900 years. It takes dedicated Christian men and women who possess a strong desire to glorify God through fighting today's evils of society. Our mission is the same today as it was 900 years ago...to defend those who cannot defend themselves and spread the message of God. Spreading the message of Jesus, the word of God and keeping his tenets.Together we can make a difference in the world and support of our fellow Christians.

Having a clear mission and a statement of that mission as Defenders of the Faith is important. Partnering with local charities in addition to Open Doors USA® gives us a purpose. Because together we can make a difference in the world by supporting our fellow Christians and sharing the love of God.

LPF’s mission is to advance the retail loss prevention and asset protection profession by providing relevant, convenient and challenging educational resources.

LPF is responsible for administering the retail industry’s only internationally sanctioned certifications: LPQualified (LPQ) and LPCertified (LPC). It’s accompanying accredited prep-courses (LPQ, LPC), and proctored exams are focused at measuring individual industry knowledge and elevating the professional image of the industry. With LPF’s 24/7 online educational resources and professional membership program, LPF is able to educate the industry like no other organization of its kind, in the world.

Founded in 2006, and governed under the leadership of a 31 member board of directors, consisting of 31 vice presidents & directors, LPF is the only 501 (c) 6, not for profit organization of its kind, exclusively recognized by and dedicated to the retail loss prevention and asset protection industry.

The Loss Prevention Foundation’s retail focus is set by a board of directors, composed of LP individuals, who largely hold senior level positions at retail companies or in companies that serve the retail sector. Unlike bigger trade associations, whose boards are composed of retail CEOs, the Loss Prevention Foundation is exclusively created to serve the education needs of the retail LP/AP profession.

In addition, LPF is focused on driving more talent to the loss prevention and asset protection industry from colleges, universities, military and law enforcement through its Academic Retail Partnership Program and its Hire-A-Vet program.

At the LPRC we continue to work on ways to help retailers sell more while losing less using in-store and supply chain innovation efforts, interviewing offenders, shoppers and employees, while analyzing large data sets and conducting randomized controlled trials in active locations.

A major LPRC research focus is better understanding the psychology of how AP/LP efforts actually affect human behavior in stores and DCs. We are looking at how and where we should place deterrent treatments to make the most positive impact with the least negative shopper and employee effects.

    Groups and Teams

Innovate, Collaborate, Evaluate. Let’s take it to the next level. That’s what the LPRC Board of Advisors (BOA) has declared for the members of the LPRC and its research team. To that end, the advisors are driving that mandate by guiding and staffing a set of working groups and action teams.

The BOA and staff determined the best way to provide specific problem and solution areas focus and actionable results is by establishing ongoing working groups and action teams. Working groups innovate and field evaluate current and emerging procedures and technologies that apply across retailer type, while action teams integrate similar retailers to systematically attack common problems.

Both groups and teams combine retailer, solution partner and high-risk product manufacturer networking and brainstorming with the LPRC and University of Florida research teams to produce validated results.

    Concept to Action

Each working group and action team is or has set quarterly deliverables in order to both meet their objectives while generating ongoing, actionable results to all members. R&D and research includes offender interviews, surveys, focus groups, locational innovation via StoreLab, data analytics, and randomized field experiments.

What exactly does a great leader do? Are they the standard-bearer, setting direction and providing instruction to others? Or should they facilitate progress, helping the rest of the team achieve their shared goals? The traditional view of a leader is perhaps with the former. But that view is changing. A leader can be the catalyst for improvement in the group—actually acting as someone who provides a service for the rest of the team. That has led to the phrase “servant leadership.”

Servant leadership isn’t a brand-new concept thought up by management gurus or Harvard Business School. It actually goes back to the days of Confucius. Modern-day servant leadership has roots in the principle that leaders are compelled to make the welfare of their team their top priority. The team then performs to a high level as they are satisfied, comfortable, and feel valued. Someone who has all of these three elements in their life can perform to their optimum level.

It incorporates the dynamic streamlining of a business’ stock side activities to intensify customer worth and include a high ground in the aggressive market. Supply chain is extremely helpful for any business as it gives approaches to advance your business in a successful, auspicious, and efficient method, yet there are likewise a few dangers that are engaged with this procedure.

When we consider that every single piece of item ought to be moved through the supply chain method, it’s definitely not hard to see the need to align compliance and secure the pipeline as products go through the multiple networks. The asset protection efforts that do or need to take place inside the supply chain network have grown amazingly and continue to mature over time.

The aim of supply-chain risk management (SCRM) is fairly straightforward. It’s how we help to identify risk and manage supply-chain security adequately. But learning about supply-chain risks is a bit of a rabbit hole. Even something seemingly basic can be muddy, such as where supply chain starts. (With a product’s manufacture? When plans are drawn? At ideation?) What’s certain is that risks are inherent at every step along a product’s path to a store’s shelf. And, perhaps, back again as purchase does not always mark an end to a product’s path through the supply chain.

In the interview, Executive Editor James Lee, LPC, speaks with Scrofani about his career evolution and professional development over the years. Scrofani divulges how, as an economics and finance major in college, he had plans to work on Wall Street. But his interest in finance gradually grew into a fascination with the world of loss prevention — and an eventual career shift. As he tells it:
It was a gradual transition for me. The funny thing about finance is you live in the detail of the numbers. When you think about all your accounting classes, you’re looking at your balance sheet and how things move to credit or debit and why. It technically was the same thing for me—you’re in the detail, and you’re following a very methodical path.

The more I got into LP, the more I learned about shrink, audit, inventory control, and shortage control. That really moved me into the paper part of the trade: how something can happen that’s not people-based. For example, for me it was being in a store where business was slow. It made me think, how can you have a high shrink number? Someone must be really hurting you, but you barely have any employees working on specific days. So you start looking at the paper. Then you realize that it may be a problem with respect to how the inventory control department is manifesting deliveries to the store. That sort of illustrates how my interest in finance manifested itself into loss prevention.
