$223 billion. That’s what culturally-motivated turnover cost organizations over the previous five years, according to a 2019 SHRM report.

As you embark on the pursuit of investing in a company, the due diligence process is key for all parties. Depending on the stage, you might be looking for different aspects as the key drivers, which can vary from traction, market potential, market size, team; to product- market fit, annual recurring revenue, and their plan for growth.

However, one area that impacts everything from productivity, engagement, customer loyalty, talent retention, speed of innovation, growth, and, of course, profitability, is culture. Culture is a way to align people with shared values to support each other in overcoming challenges and achieving ambitious goals in an efficient and meaningful way.

Why does it matter for you as an investor, and how do you assess it?
    Let’s start with the why.

Many things are going on in the field of the Future of Work. One interesting development is this company, which just raised a large round from fellow leaders from the workplace space.

When high achievers with similar values, complementary skills, and a shared goal come together, magic happens. Working alongside fellow high performers is inspiring and exciting, and it's essential for any company to facilitate opportunities for on-going collaboration. However, just as a thriving culture doesn't just happen; neither does great collaboration. Different tools can certainly help, especially for distributed teams. The company presented in the article aims to lower the barriers for people to come together.

In a recent article in Wired, it was highlighted that a company is about to install toilets that are uncomfortable to sit on with the goal of employees spending less time in the bathroom taking breaks. It’s not just that this idea is completely missing the mark, but it also shows how pervasive the effects of a toxic company culture can be."

To change anything, we need to have the courage to acknowledge our current reality. Culture is a way to drive behavior, as it is a way to align people with shared values to support each other in overcoming challenges and achieving ambitious goals in an efficient and meaningful way. Your company's culture is the foundation of your company's behavior, and it impacts everything from productivity, engagement, and customer loyalty to innovation, retention of talent, growth, and, profitability.

High Achievers outperform the average worker by 10 percent in productivity, 20 percent in sales, and 30 percent in profitability, according to research. However, 8 out of 20 employees worldwide are not engaged in their work, leaving only 2 out of 10 involved in and enthusiastic about what they do. Part of the problem has to do with the implementation of traditional models in a world where the workplace is in constant transformation. It's time to reimagine the workplace, starting with a culture where people come first.

While many are focused on technology within the Future of Work, Therese is uniquely positioned by championing a people-first mindset. She deeply understands the needs and wants of the High Achievers of today and the High Potentials of tomorrow. With her accurate capturing of the influences shaping the Future of Work and how to create long-lasting employee engagement over nearly 20 years of experience, Therese brings highly actionable and scalable frameworks designed to accelerate the vision of high-performing founders and executives. As a High Achiever herself, serial entrepreneur, and decades-long leader of global teams, she applies her models daily and is a real-life example of how to successfully lead a people and purpose-centric company.

In uncertain times, designing a thriving culture with well-working processes and leading with maximum impact is more important than ever to stay competitive.

Here is a sneak peek at what we will explore:
Is it possible to experience a deep sense of accomplishment at the end of each day even when the world is crazy? Can the daily grind be a source of happiness and fulfillment even in times of challenge? Can you live a designed life of purpose and values instead of following traditional pre-decided paths?

The answer is… Yes, of course! Just as in the movie The Matrix, limitations are only in our minds. “There is no spoon.” And, just as there isn’t a single definition of success or living a fulfilled life, there are multiple paths to greatness which can be designed and made your own.

During our time at the Royal Institute of Technology, Terrence Brown, kicked off the morning, followed by a great keynote speech by Stefan himself.

The panel discussions covered large topics such as how digitalization is disrupting the workplace, the increased global competition, and its implication on your company in addition to why company culture is so essential for change.

As I am specializing in supporting fast-growing companies in designing and scaling company culture successfully by becoming more people and purpose-centric, my core message for the morning was, "It's time to reimagine the workplace starting with people."

Thank you, Daniel Kjellsson, Niklas Huss, Carl Wåreus, Hanna Riberdahl, Per Kittel, and Albert Bengtson for the first insightful and dynamic panel discussion. And a big thanks to my fellow brilliant panelists Sven Hagströmer, Sophie Gernandt, Hans Nyblom and Bugge Woldner for a great conversation.

It was a highly appreciated engagement, and one of the students wrote:

“Thank you so much for coming to speak at NYU yesterday, I found it to be a very educational and inspiring talk. I've always had interest in entrepreneurship-- but seeing my father's many years of struggle with his business and ultimately having to close it down instilled a fear in me of taking that risk and facing the immense challenges.

Throughout your speech, I had the chance to self reflect, using my father's business as an example and managed to identify where many of the underlying issues were. Like you said, it has to do a lot with culture and encouraging behaviour that aligned with the culture.

I am truly thankful for your willingness to share your wisdom and find your story to be remarkably inspiring. I gave what you said a lot of thought, which helped me overcome that fear of taking the risk to start my own venture.”

I had a great pleasure of delivering a keynote speech on ‘The Future of Retail – Starting with re-imagining your culture’ during an Apple invite-only event for a large Swedish delegation with futuristic industry leaders. It served as a kickoff for NRF, the global retail conference, here in New York City.

After spending days with this great group, I'm inspired by all the innovation and strengthening customer experience these companies are bringing to the space. It's a very exciting time for retail.

Future of retail starts with people; with empowering people who are passionate about bringing more heart and excitement into the whole retail experience. When an industry is transforming, we need to re-design our company culture to carry out the vision of creating a customer experience that WOW's customers today and tomorrow. How do we do this? This, and much more was what I presented in my talk.

The highlights during the five days are so many with great talks from fellow change-makers, an interesting workshop, an exquisite dinner at the Swedish Ambassadors house at Park Ave, a tasting evening at Brooklyn Brewery, karaoke after hours and a large buzzing dinner in lower Manhattan. And, most importantly, countless incredible conversations.

Thank you all for an amazing time in New York City! And, a special thank you to Richard and Albert for bringing us all together!

Like New York before it, Toronto has been an incredible part of our journey. It was a pleasure to meet with so many inspiring individuals from many progressive-thinking companies (big and small) at the summit.

At the age of 17, I started my first company. Fast forward 20 years of the incredible rollercoaster (in the mountains) that the entrepreneurial journey with great highs and challenging lows. Today I have been on all sides of the entrepreneurial table – as a founder and CEO, mentor, guest lecturer at universities, investor, jury member for business plan competitions, and advisor to founders, CEOs, and investors.

I have always been a champion of supporting our global startup community. We at Reimaginez have worked with over 1000+ CEOs, founders, and executives. What originally drew me to this world was the realization that entrepreneurship is limitless. There is no right or wrong way of building a successful company or being a successful founder; it all comes down to your vision, values, hard work, and creativity. (a couple of more things, but I will keep the list short)

I won the second prize and besides the great honor and a cash prize, I’m also invited to attend a large entrepreneurship conference in Luxembourg in November.
