Assistant Director of Finance

Basic Job Function

To assist the Controller in maintaining internal control systems over income, expenditure, assets and liabilities within the hotel. Also responsible for all staff and duties performed by the accounting department.

Essential Functions

  • To direct, manage and support the development, implementation, maintenance and administration of all financial controls and accounting procedures based upon a maximization of internal control techniques consistent with The Kahala Hotel & Resort established policy and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Hires, trains, and evaluates accounting staff. Monitors labor costs and efficiency/effectiveness of staff and contract services. Enforces established departmental and hotel policy and procedures and performs disciplinary actions as necessary.
  • To manage, supervise and support all subordinate employees. To initiate employee development as well as reviews and approves annual performance appraisals for all subordinate staff to ensure the highest level of professional competence and efficient continuity within those positions and may review appraisal with each colleague, in the absence of the immediate supervisor, in a timely manner and provide relief for other accounting management personnel for vacation, sick etc.
  • To organize an efficient treasury function to provide the Controller of the hotel’s working capital and cash flow in accordance with Executive Committee minimum guidelines.
  • To coordinate the month end closing process. Ensure all financial reports, budgets, forecasts and other information required by the Controller and the Executive Committee are accurately compiled and submitted within the specified time limits.
  • To ensure all tax documentation and payments are properly filed and all statutory and fiscal reporting requirements are satisfied which include any government requirement for permits and licenses.
  • Monthly responsibilities are but not limited to ensure all balance sheet accounts are properly reconciled, identify variances and make recommendations for improvements as appropriate, audit General Cashier’s house bank, coordinate internal and external audits and prepare audit schedules and analytical reviews identifying variances and arranges, participates in and implements periodic departmental meetings.
  • Researches, develops and recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the department and services performed.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Controller.

Education/Training Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma required
  • College degree in Accounting strongly preferred

Experience/Skill Requirements

  • Five (5) years experience in Accounting required
  • Two (2) years supervisory experience required
  • Three (3) years experience in Hotel Accounting strongly preferred
