SUMMARY: This position will support the firm’s business development program nationally (and internationally, as assignments require) by developing custom and targeted pitch documents, managing multi-practice pitch opportunities; analyzing and responding to requests for proposal (RFPs); and writing and maintaining materials that effectively communicate the firm’s capabilities, services and solutions for our clients. Materials produced by this position are highly visible and greatly impact the firm. This position interfaces heavily with Marketing and Business Development Managers, the Client Development team, executive leadership and many attorneys throughout the firm.


The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in English, journalism or communications-oriented discipline and demonstrate the ability to think broadly, with a high level of initiative. Must also possess a solid writing background with at least 3-5 years’ experience in proposal writing and proposal management in professional services firms (legal industry a plus). Excellent communication, proofreading, analytical and problem-solving skills. Attention to detail and precision in both thinking and written work product are crucial components of the position.

Superior knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Must possess strong independent judgment in order to establish and manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a demanding, fast-paced, deadline-driven, detail-oriented work environment. Experience with proposal automation and content maintenance software (Foundation highly desirable) and database applications a plus.

The ideal candidate should be pragmatic, diplomatic and resourceful, with strong project development and management skills and a creative, solutions-oriented mindset, ideally honed in a large law firm or other professional services context.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Participate in all phases of proposal process, from kick-off meeting to production and delivery – prepare schedules, collect data and coordinate team meetings as appropriate
  • Act as primary lead for complex RFPs that require a high level of expertise and project management
  • Work with Marketing and Business Development Managers to analyze and evaluate RFPs, create custom pitch books and practice- and industry-specific content
  • Write non-technical proposal sections and work with subject matter experts to develop content
  • Assist with market research as needed in connection with current and prospective clients.
  • Handle due diligence research for business development opportunities.
  • Assist with the coordination, review, writing and editing of special communications projects and/or background/research materials for attorneys and Business Development Managers.
  • Act as a resource to other marketing and business development colleagues as it relates to best practices, training, DM specific knowledge, etc.
  • Manage expectations of Marketing & Business Development Managers and attorneys.
  • Provide support on other strategic marketing and business development initiatives as needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong relationship-development, communication, and proactive client service skills and attitude are essential.
  • 3+ years’ experience in the area of proposal writing and proposal management, preferably as a primary focus, in a professional services setting.
  • Experienced with style templates and proposal automation software (Foundation preferred)
  • Superior knowledge of Microsoft office suite, experience with graphics/visual elements, experience with database applications, InterAction highly desirable.
  • Be detail oriented and organized, with excellent editing and proofreading skills
  • Have strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects under tight deadlines.
  • Strong business sense/awareness of current events, competitive analysis/research, opportunity evaluation.
  • Must be outgoing, comfortable demonstrating initiative, and able to think critically and creatively.
  • High sense of responsibility, accountability, and focus on responsiveness.
  • College degree required. English, Communications or other writing-intensive background helpful.
