Job Summary

Catholic Relief Services is the official overseas relief and development agency of the US Catholic community. The Government Relations department advances CRS' social justice vision and presence on Capitol Hill and with foreign affairs agencies of the U.S. government, with the aim of eliminating global poverty and injustice towards a more peaceful world.

Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Policy and Senior Director of Government Relations, the primary responsibility of the Coordinator is to provide support to the Policy and Government Relations teams in the Mission and Mobilization division. The incumbent in this role will be responsible for four areas of work: 1) day-to-day administrative needs of the DC office; 2) Logistical support for in-person and remote events; 3) Operational support to the Government Relations and Policy teams to help their functioning; and 4) Policy and Advocacy technical support. These will contribute to the overall advocacy strategy and campaign goals of the U.S.-facing Mission and Mobilization department.

Roles And Key Responsibilities

  • Administrative:
  • Office management includes all business processes, internal and external calendars, resource curation, responses to general inquiries, budget maintenance, and account payables
  • Manage room reservations and set up in-person and virtual meetings including meals and supplies as needed
  • Provide interdivisional administrative assistance to align coverage and tasks as needed
  • Provide primary support for government relations and policy directors and staff with travel arrangements, timesheets, and submitting expense reports

Logistics

  • Planning Hill days (4x per year) and scheduling Congressional office visits: including participant travel, transportation, lodging, and meals; provided supplies and audiovisual needs, expense reporting and reimbursements, procurement of event spaces, coordinating catering, and collating materials.
    • Organize and manage events from start to finish (both in-person and remote) with support from the division’s event team
    • Support divisional event planning and production, including select Saturday mornings throughout the year
Operational

  • Update and maintain documents on the Advocacy SharePoint site
  • Data input and maintenance, create and run reports related to grant and Government Relations advocacy activities utilizing the Salesforce Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform
  • Attendance at internal meetings, take notes and disseminate and maintain them on the related SharePoint site
  • Provide all required grant record-keeping, including assisting with budget reconciliation and reporting for grant and project expenses

Policy And Advocacy Support

  • Literature reviews of specific policy issues needing support
  • Attending external events and meetings, taking notes, and disseminating
  • Assist with design of short policy products
  • Assist with production of policy products, working with Marketing & Communications department/portal
  • Support Government Relations staff on Congressional and Administrative advocacy efforts

Work towards technical sector expertise of interest and opportunity

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (BQs)

  • Minimum associate’s degree or equivalent experience (in addition to 2-year work experience)
  • 2-years work experience (can be post-college, or internships) in international relations, public policy, public administration or related.

Required Languages English

Travel– Occasional travel to CRS’ Baltimore HQ

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities (SKAs)

  • In-depth proficiency with Salesforce and Microsoft products, including MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and SharePoint required.
  • Good research and writing skills
  • Project Management skills
  • Ability to take initiative, function independently, and exercise good judgment
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment with colleagues in-person and remote is critical
  • Ability to prioritize, manage time, and multi-task
  • Commitment to accuracy in all tasks and attention to detail and follow up is essential
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Experience with web-based collaboration and communication systems technologies desirable, including but not limited to SharePoint, Teams, Zoom, and Salesforce
  • Financial and budget management a plus
  • Familiarity with Capitol Hill, legislative processes, or legislative advocacy a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal English communications skills

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Work Conditions/Environment Conditions: Before COVID, this position was based in CRS’ office in Washington, DC, with occasional presence at CRS’ Baltimore Headquarters required. As the future of work is still unknown, we do not know whether this position will be hybrid remote and in-person, or 100% in-person, but should be prepared to be 100% in-person at the DC office.
