In collaboration with organizational leadership, the Dental Director is responsible for aligning oral health services and administrative procedures with the strategic objectives of the organization to optimize the delivery of high-quality oral health care. This role includes leading and managing the provider group and clinical support staff, developing clinical protocols, and ensuring quality assurance of patient care. The Dental Director also prepares and maintains healthcare plans, participates in grant applications, and develops retention and recruitment plans to ensure appropriate clinical staffing. Clinical and direct care responsibilities will comprise approximately 50% of the schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Alignment: Embrace and promote the philosophy, mission, and values of OCH while adhering to its guidelines and procedures.
  • Policy Development: Design, develop, and implement Dental Department policies, protocols, and procedures.
  • Leadership: Supervise, organize, schedule, and provide direction and leadership for the delivery of high-quality oral health care.
  • Standards and Qualifications: Develop standards and qualifications for dental personnel and oversee the approval of dental staff.
  • Healthcare Plans: Prepare, implement, and maintain oral health care plans addressing patients' critical needs.
  • Program Development: Lead the planning and development of new dental programs.
  • Staffing: Develop retention and recruitment plans to ensure appropriate clinical staffing.
  • Supervision: Provide clinical and managerial supervision, including training and performance evaluations of dental staff.
  • Cultural Competence: Ensure dental providers deliver culturally competent care.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, OSHA).
  • Clinical Management: Oversee the day-to-day clinical care of patients.
  • Collaboration: Foster a collaborative environment among dental and support staff to improve access to and quality of care.
  • Direct Care: Provide direct dental care to clinic patients to maintain clinical skills.
  • Community Engagement: Coordinate with external organizations to improve services and participate in community groups.
  • Systems Improvement: Participate in systems improvement initiatives to enhance care access and quality.
  • Data Analysis: Collect, analyze, and report data to evaluate progress on quality indicators.
  • Quality Improvement: Incorporate feedback into the Quality Improvement Process and update clinical policies and protocols.
  • Budgeting: Coordinate and develop the annual budget for the Dental Department.
  • Reporting: Provide information to the Board of Directors, administrative team, and managers to manage oral health service needs.
  • Leadership: Participate in the Leadership team for strategic planning and management.
  • Program Support: Support essential programs and identify new initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least five (5) years of professional clinical experience in family or general practice dentistry.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work with competing timelines.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Successful relationship management skills in a diverse, multicultural environment.
  • Ability to use initiative and good judgment to resolve problems.
  • Teamwork skills with the ability to work with ambiguity.
  • Ability to inspire trust and confidence and communicate effectively.
  • Capability to work independently, handle multiple projects, and maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
  • High-level computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, Epic).
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, customer service, and workplace safety.
  • Ability to identify learning needs and design plans to meet them.
  • Willingness to work in a dynamic community healthcare environment.
  • Willingness to travel for events and between clinic locations, as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Spanish/English.
  • Experience in performance improvement and utilization management, including data management
  • Five years of managerial experience with strong leadership abilities in a dental or health insurance setting.
  • Experience in a community or migrant health center (FQHC) setting, including practice management systems.

Education, License, And Certification

  • Graduation from an accredited school of dentistry with a DMD or DDS degree.
  • Current Oregon Dental License and DEA licensure in good standing.
  • Current CPR (BLS) certification.
  • Successful completion of OCH credentialing and privilege requirements.

Compensation

  • Salaried/Exempt: Starting at $180,000 annually, dependent on experience.
  • Bilingual Differential: Additionally, we offer $0.75 per hour as compensation for bilingual proficiency in both English and Spanish.
