Position Focus

Reporting to the Operations Manager, in the Department of Statistics & Data Science (S&DS), provides comprehensive financial, accounting, and procurement support to faculty, staff and students. Responsible for financial monitoring of all faculty and department accounts in S&DS, including review of transactions, reconciliation, research, and problem solving and resolution. Ensures all applicable policies, procedures, and guidelines are followed in all activities. Reviews and approves Expense Reports; identifies and creates Journal entries and Accounting Adjustments. Executes special projects and routine activities in support of the Business Office. Provides support in several areas including review and reconciliation of financial reports, general business operations of the department, on and off boarding of all department members – faculty, staff and students - and creation and maintenance of vendor relationships in concert with the Procurement Department. Provides project support to the department Operations Manager, specifically, and generally, to the Lead Administrator of the Department of Statistics & Data Science.

Essential Duties

Principal Responsibilities: 1. Processes financial documents, payrolls and deposits of funds. Ensures expenses and revenue are posted to proper accounts. 2. Serves as principal source of information on financial policies, procedures and financial activity. 3. Instructs departmental personnel in financial aspects of their jobs. 4. Serves as petty cash cashier. 5. Reconciles and analyzes financial statements. Identifies, researches and corrects questionable financial activity. 6. Prepares standardized and specialized financial reports and analyses. 7. Serves as Notary Public. 8. Assists with the development and implementation of systems and procedures. 9. Oversees the maintenance of financial records and files. 10. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education And Experience

Required Education and Experience: Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and a high school-level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate’s degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Proven ability to juggle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet demanding deadlines and work with changing priorities in a growing and high-volume environment, with flexibility in handling assignments. Demonstrated success in detailed work requiring accuracy and a high level of productivity with follow-up skills.

Demonstrated tenacity and follow-through during routine and advanced problem solving. Familiarity with Excel.

Required Skill/Ability 3

Demonstrated ability to apply policies and procedures in area of expertise. Willing to train in procedural activities on a repetitive basis and observant of the process; provides recommendations for change and/or improvement.

Ability to handle high demand departmental community members. Ability to work with conflicting requests and confidence to request assistance as needed. Self-directed with the proven ability to take initiative and problem solve. Demonstrated sensitivity, confidentiality and sound judgment.
