In your role as a hardware test engineer at Horizon Surgical Systems, you will be responsible for developing test methods and fixtures for, and performing associated testing and documentation of, a surgical robotic system. Testing will be performed in accordance with relevant industry standards and within the company's quality management system.

The level of title will be determined case by case, based on the candidate's qualifications and years of experience: engineer, senior engineer, or higher.

Horizon Surgical Systems Inc. is seeking engineers with experience in testing of robotics and medical devices to contribute to a novel surgical robotic system for ophthalmology.

Qualifications:

  • Education and experience:
    • Preferred: B.S./M.S. plus 5/3 years experience in testing of medical devices.
    • Minimum: B.S./M.S. plus 2/1 years experience in testing of medical devices.
    • Degrees should be in relevant disciplines such as mechanical / electrical / mechatronics / biomedical / robotics engineering, material science, or computer science.
  • Desired Skills:
    • Medical device verification and validation (V&V) testing
    • Hands-on prototyping, debugging, and testing. Mechatronics experience is a plus.
    • Analyzing, interpreting, and documenting test results.
    • Statistical analysis methods and software (Minitab, JMP, etc.)
    • Mechanical analysis and simulation - Kinematic, dynamic, workspace, thermal, FEA.
    • Writing and executing test protocols under Design Control (FDA 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485)
    • Sufficient programming ability in languages/software such as Python, MATLAB, or C/C++ to design, test, and apply test fixtures.
    • CAD - SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM, GD&T.
    • Electrical design, including PCB design, component selection, and wiring.
Expectations and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate in teams and work independently, to develop test methods and fixtures for the evaluation of a complete surgical robotic system.
  • Perform testing according to test methods developed by yourself and others, and effectively analyze, document, and communicate results.
  • Adhere and contribute to design standards, the Quality Management System, and project planning.
  • Apply all available tools, software, training, and experience to effectively analyze and solve engineering problems, mitigate potential risks, and maximize system functionality and safety.
  • Assist and cooperate with other teams and colleagues to find solutions to interdisciplinary challenges inherent in complex robot system development.
  • Commute to, and work on-site, at our Malibu-based office.
  • Effectively communicate and present to upper management, within and between teams, and to external parties.
