OVERALL PURPOSE/FUNCTION:


Identifying and writing case reviews of new property insurance cases as they are decided. Researching and preparing comments on new case law that will aid insurance company adjusters in understanding how the case law fits into the body of property insurance law and interpretation of insurance policies. Referencing the case review in all relevant PLRB database materials. Monitoring for legislative and regulatory activity relevant to property insurance claims and preparing bulletins to alert membership of these new developments.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; 


1. Set up and review Lexis alerts to locate new property insurance cases on a continuous basis. Add possible cases/synopses to case law list and continually update this list as cases are reviewed.


2. Monitor numerous other industry news sources for new property insurance cases.


3 Prepare reviews of new property insurance cases on a weekly basis. This will include summaries of the case and comments on how this case fits into the body of property insurance law, and how it can be helpful to adjusters handling property insurance claims.


4. Upload the case review and court opinion into the PLRB database and prepare it for addition to PLRB’s weekly newsletter.


5. Add a summary of the new case to all relevant PLRB database materials. 


6. Monitor Lexis and other sources for new statutory or regulatory materials.


7. Prepare bulletins on new regulations or statutes and add a summary and reference to the bulletins in all relevant PLRB database materials. 


8. Case summaries and other writings must be of a style directed to PLRB's audience of insurance professionals. 


9. Use careful and thorough legal and/or technical research and analysis and

quality writing for production of all assigned projects with minimal direct

supervision and be able to complete such work in compliance with set deadlines.


10. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.


QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS


Education and/or Experience


Law degree from an accredited law school. Property or casualty claims-related legal experience is a plus.


Professional Designations/Licensure/Certificates


Must be licensed by the State of Illinois as an attorney, and be in good standing with the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission (ARDC). CPCU or AIC designations are a plus. 


Skills, Knowledge and Abilities


Outstanding Lexis legal research skills.  


Excellent demonstrated legal writing skills.


Ability to perform work in compliance with writing style and citation guidelines established by PLRB.


Excellent technical and Web research skills and ability to work in PLRBs database.


Strong teamwork and project management skills. 


Strong computer skills, including expert-level competence with Microsoft Word. Experience with database management is a plus.


Job Demands


The job requires long hours in front of a computer screen and long hours at a desk or desk alternative, use of a keyboard and mouse, and use of a telephone.


The job requires concentration, reading, writing, analyzing, organizing, interpreting, communicating, decision-making, and maintaining confidentiality.


Work Locations


Remote/ Hybrid remote and in-office as agreed to with supervisor.


PLRB Headquarters, 3025 Highland Parkway, Suite 800, Downers Grove, Illinois, or at remote locations as required for duties.


Some domestic travel to various conferences and meetings.


Work Hours


Routine – Standard flextime schedule.

Special – Extraordinary events, as necessary.


Work Days


Routine - Monday through Friday.

PRIMARY INTERFACES


Internal         PLRB position reports to SVP – Coverage Legal Services

Position coordinates closely with all other legal and IT staff.


External       Contact with member companies, outside vendors, affiliates, and technical and legal resource experts across the industry.
