The Legislative Assistant/Receptionist plays a crucial role in providing administrative support and exceptional client service. In this position, you can expect to manage phone calls and emails, schedule appointments, interact directly with clients in a professional and welcoming environment, and assist with document preparation. This position reports on-site to our Washington, D.C. office.
Responsibilities
Research and write legislative correspondence and conduct legislative research.
Track advancement of bills through the legislative process, including monitoring and attending committee hearings, securing committee testimony and records preparation.
Prepare briefing documents for clients to use when meeting with members of Congress and/or Federal agencies.
Assist attorneys and lobbyists with legislative projects, as needed.
Administrative tasks may include answering the phones on occasion, handling expense reports, handling travel arrangements, and other administrative tasks, as necessary.
Handle the firm’s PAC requests.
Make appointment requests with Members of Congress and officials at Federal agencies, as necessary.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or Equivalent; bachelor's degree preferred.
Proficiency with MS Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with careful attention to grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Minimum 2-years' experience in a professional setting; prior legal secretary or related experience preferred.
Ability to work with legal technology, i.e., court filings, document management program, computer systems, transcription software.
