MSTS is seeking 4 experienced Lieutenant (Supervisors), Basic Readiness Standard (BRS) to perform as a Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) Shift Supervisor, responsible for all Protective Force (PF) tactical responses and day-to-day operations. This position is accountable for all aspects of PF personnel management within his/her assigned area, including, but not limited to, training, counseling, conducting investigations of unusual incidents, and assisting with the security and safety management for emergency incidents at NNSS.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day activities, responsibilities, projects and tasks of the Security Police Officer (SPO) BRS personnel to include evaluating performance. This position is accountable for all aspects of SPO BRS personnel management including, but not limited to training, counseling, conducting investigations on unusual incidents.
  • Perform personnel and safety equipment checks, prepares SITREP, Investigation Reports, and makes notifications of reportable offenses or incidents. Ensures posts are manned through implementation of a work schedule.
  • Provide daily operational support to the Protective Force Captain, participating and assisting in the management of the daily business and department operations. Provides administrative oversight by reviewing and verifying reports, logs, and forms for accuracy.
  • Provide overall Command & Control of security forces at geographically-dispersed locations. Serves as Zone Commander during security emergencies and participates in Force-on-Force (FOF) exercises. Interprets policies and regulations and instructs subordinates.
  • Serve as Incident Commander during security emergencies, evaluates SPOs and ensures station orders are current. Deploys personnel during responses and execution of contingency plans.
  • Conduct investigations on security or personnel issues. Assists with the security and safety management for emergency incidents at NNSS.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Management.
  • Bachelors' degree or equivalent training and experience, plus a minimum of 5 years of related and progressively responsible experience.
  • Minimum 4 years experience areas such as protective force or similar law enforcement, military experience is preferred.
  • Must have NNSS Basic Supervisor certification & current certification for TRF-100; Security Police Officer Training.
  • Must be people sensitive and possess skills to promote an environment for open communications, develop mutual trust and teamwork, and facilitate employee self-development.
  • Demonstrated skill to establish and maintain strong and effective customer relations, and to anticipate change and adjust promptly and effectively.
  • The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada).  
  • Positions will require the ability to work various shifts, Monday through Sunday, based on mission requirements.
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.


MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security”. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level) and Human Reliability Program (reference 10 CFR Part 712, “Human Reliability Program”) certification. Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

Hourly range for this position is $36.74 - $58.78.

Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
