Medical Coder - Remote | WFH

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Medical Coder/Biller responsible for accurately abstracting provider services into billable codes from medical documentation. Upholding the coding ethics of professional bodies such as AAPC, AHIMA, and NAMAS, along with adhering to payer guidelines, is essential in this role. Additionally, this position involves posting and reconciling charges, as well as communicating with providers and staff regarding medical necessity, documentation completeness, and coding accuracy.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

Accurately abstract provider services into billable codes (CPT, HCPCS, & ICD-10) from medical documentation.

Post and reconcile charges in hospital settings (IP/OP/OBS) daily.

Communicate coding inefficiencies and documentation issues to the coding supervisor.

Reference coding and payer resources to ensure accurate coding and billing.

Assist the AR Specialist with complex coding denials and appeals as needed.

Engage in ongoing education related to coding and billing practices.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Proficient in coding services (CPT, HCPCS, & ICD-10) according to AAPC, AHIMA, and NAMAS standards.

Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; additional languages a plus.

Excellent customer service and phone etiquette.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and meet productivity standards.

Effective prioritization and workload management skills.

Problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach.

Strong organizational skills and ability to handle high-volume tasks.

Team-oriented with a positive attitude and willingness to assist others.

Credentials/Education/Experience

High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and/or coding.

Certifications in Medical Billing and Coding highly desirable.
