OST Director

Salary range: $58,000- $62,000 depending on certifications, education and experience.

Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Preschool & Family Services Director, the Out of School Time (OST) Director develops, organizes and implements high quality YMCA after school care(K-8) and teen programming. This position has the expectation of being present and full-time during the school year, as well as preparation for the start and closure of the program. During the summer, this position transitions to being a leader that oversees Camp Pikati, which operates in the summer months opposite the OST program.

Ost Director Essential Functions

  • Manages, directs and coordinates the school age childcare programs. Oversees the coordinator of the teen program. Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities. Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Recruits and hires diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Onboards and develops them for success. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Models’ relationship-building skills and listening skills in all interactions.
  • Alongside the Preschool and Family Services Director, assures compliance with state (Early Education & Care) and local regulations as they relate to program areas. Ensures that YMCA program standards are satisfied, and safety procedures followed.
  • Assists Preschool and Family Services Director to develop and maintain relationships with state childcare licensing agency (EEC), school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Active support of our DEIB statement and putting into practice our commitment to equity, diversity, belonging and inclusion. Continue to research, create, recommend and implement strategies to support diversity goals of the organization.
  • Develops and implements innovative clubs and daily programming both during the school year and summer months. (Youth in Government, Debate Club, Drama Club, Science Club, Art Club, Photography Club, STEM activities, etc.)
  • Oversee monthly staff training, ensuring consistent safety/emergency response training is reviewed, understood, and performed. Maintain complete familiarity of all risk management procedures and policies for the organization.
  • Outreach to local schools in the community to build program growth. Attend community fairs to recruit potential program participants, build relationships with school counselors, teachers and other school counsel committees- PTO, etc.
  • Ensures high quality curriculum through innovative program development.
  • Coordinates and organizes monthly “Parents Night Out” Events and activities with the Membership Department.
  • Develops, manages and controls budgets related to the position. Ensures program operates within budget and that program fees are collected.
  • Works closely with Preschool & Family Services Dir. on constant awareness with staff, child and parents of the importance of Child Sexual Abuse Prevention.
  • Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living.
  • Provides staff leadership for annual fundraising campaign and committees as assigned.
  • Maintains proper records/department files/program binder.
  • Organizes special events for parents. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Provides reports to committees, Board of Directors, and Senior Leadership as necessary.
  • Coordinate and participate in special events and activities related to membership growth and/or retention to enhance the member experience and volunteer opportunities.
  • Implements and oversees a program evaluation system to guarantee faithfulness to the Y’s cause, and a high-quality commitment to YMCA standards and successful financial outcomes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in related field or equivalent experience.
  • EEC Director 1 Certification preferred.
  • One to two years related experience preferred, as a coordinator or supervisor of childcare and/or camp programs.
  • Minimum age requirements of 21.
  • Previous project management experience.
  • Previous experience managing, mentoring and supervising staff.
  • Strong administrative skills, proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Previous programming, planning and implementation experience in a childcare setting.
  • Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: CPR and First Aid.
  • Positive, enthusiastic, consistent, and reliable.
  • Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards, EEC requirements and completion of YMCA program specific certifications.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Obtain 7-D license within 30 days of hire. (Must have clean driving record.)
  • Excellent customer service skills.
