POSITION SUMMARY: The Buyer is responsible for the ongoing procurement of materials, components, equipment, supplies, and services that meet the quality standards of the company. The focus of the Buyer will be performing routine purchases as requested or required by dad-to-day business operations. The position requires dependability, attention to detail, resourcefulness, and the ability to prioritize, and work in a fast-paced environment.

The Buyer will also be responsible for DOT compliance that comes along with the ever-growing construction fleet. This includes, but not limited, ELOG auditing and hours of service tracking, pre-trip inspection reports, new driver onboarding, ETC.

Responsibilities & Expectations

  • Develop, lead, and execute departmental purchasing requirements.
  • Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness.
  • Craft negotiation strategies and close deals with optimal terms.
  • Forecast price and market trends to identify changes in balance in buyer-supplier power.
  • Perform cost and scenario analysis, and benchmarking.
  • Assess, manage, and mitigate risks.
  • Determine quantity and timing of deliveries.
  • Monitor and forecast upcoming levels of demand.
  • Analyze proposals and negotiate best price, service, and delivery terms for purchased products and services.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing Manager on cost savings and resourcing projects.
  • Work with Project Estimators / Project Managers on future project demands and work closely with manufacturing management to ensure inventory goals and workflow is efficient as possible.
  • Uphold the firm's code of ethics and business conduct.
  • Work Closely with our DOT consulting firm to maintain compliance with State and Federal Laws.
  • Monitor and track “hours of service” for all drivers and audit ELOGS on a regular basis to maintain compliance.
  • Communicate with drivers and manage pre-trip logging in ELD.
  • Experience preparing and tracking trucks and shipments.
  • Accountable for driver training, time at home, driver retention, idle reduction, mpg improvement, driver load dispatch assignment, load optimizing, equipment usage, and effective use of the driver management system. Promotes a safety culture by evaluating the safety performance of all drivers.
  • Work with the Safety dept. to train drivers on risk management protocols, safety standards, and more
  • Monitoring, correcting, and improving driving behaviors and operations
  • Mentoring and coaching of drivers
  • Assisting in the recruitment, and discipline of drivers
  • Evaluating drivers’ performances
  • Work with CM and Personnel on setting driving schedules
  • Tracking driver attendance, health, and other statuses
  • Ensuring drivers’ adherence to applicable transport regulations (e.g., Hours of Service compliance, Pre and Post trip Inspections)
  • Providing route and operations information and technologies
  • Maintaining constant communication with drivers
