Job Description
The Maternal Mortality Case Worker will serve as a key player in the Maternal Mortality Review Program which sits in the Division of Family Health and Wellness.
The core aim of the Maternal Mortality Review Program is to identify and monitor patterns linked to maternal mortality, unearth systemic issues leading to these fatalities, and formulate impactful recommendations and modifications.
The Case Worker will support efforts to improve health outcomes for mothers across the state by conducting informant interviews to gain an in-depth understanding of the social, developmental, psychological, familial, and other potential chronic stressors of pregnant and postpartum individuals.
The information obtained by the Case Worker will be de-identified and crafted into a comprehensive narrative that is reviewed by the Maternal Mortality Review Committee (MMRC).
Key Responsibilities
Establish a standardized process and guidelines for conducting informant interviews for Tennessee’s MMR Program.
Collaborate and consult with abstractors on the key components that pertain to the cause of death.
Collaborate with abstractors regularly about cases and determine if a unique line of questioning is needed to obtain key information for a case. The focus of interview questions should enhance the committee’s ability to make decisions on the cause of death, pregnancy-relatedness, and preventability.
Dedicated time is required for conducting outreach with families and making contact attempts via mail or electronic means such as email, phone calls, or text messaging.
Summarize the interview focusing on aspects relevant to the cause of death and incorporate them into the final case narrative.
Post-interview support to families by sharing resources and making referrals tailored to the needs expressed such as grief/bereavement, counseling, support groups, or financial assistance references.
Attend quarterly MMRC case review meetings to help answer any follow-up questions about a case interview.
Willing to travel as needed for training.

Preferred
Master’s level social worker (or LCSW) in the with 1-2 years of relevant experience in similar roles.
The position may at times require flexible working hours to accommodate the availability of interview participants.
