Translation Manager, Publishing

Summary

As a Translation Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the translation process within Publishing. You will manage a team of contracted translators, ensure the quality and accuracy of translated materials, coordinate translation projects, and implement best practices to streamline processes. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, strong project management abilities, and a keen eye for detail.

Duties

  • Team Management:
    • Lead and manage a team of translators, providing guidance, support, and feedback to ensure optimal performance.
    • Conduct regular performance evaluations and implement training programs to enhance team skills and productivity.
    • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment to promote team cohesion and morale.
  • Translation Project Coordination:
    • Oversee the entire translation process, from receiving source materials to delivering final translated documents.
    • Assign translation tasks to team members based on expertise, workload, and project deadlines.
    • Collaborate with other departments to determine translation needs, priorities, and timelines.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and quality of translated materials by implementing rigorous quality assurance measures.
    • Develop and maintain translation glossaries, style guides, and terminology databases to facilitate consistency across projects.
    • Review translated documents for linguistic accuracy, cultural appropriateness, and adherence to brand guidelines.
  • Vendor Management:
    • Manage relationships with external translation vendors, freelancers, and agencies.
    • Negotiate contracts, rates, and service agreements to optimize cost- effectiveness and quality.
    • Monitor vendor performance and address any issues or concerns in a timely manner.
  • Process Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities to streamline and improve translation processes, workflows, and tools.
    • Implement best practices, standards, and tools to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
    • Stay abreast of industry trends, technologies, and developments to improve translation capabilities continuously.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
Organizational Relationships

Responsible to: Vice President of Publishing

Collaborates with: Director of Project Management, Publishing

Qualifications

  • Must be a Christian, having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Must also agree with our statement of faith and conduct his/herself in a Christ-like manner.
  • Bachelor's degree in Translation, Linguistics, Communications, or a related field required. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in translation management, preferably in a corporate or agency setting.
  • Proficiency in at least two languages, including fluency in English and another language.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality, accurate translations.
  • Familiarity with translation management tools, and localization software.
  • Experience with desktop publishing software and multimedia localization is a plus.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, best practices, and quality assurance processes in translation and localization.

Performance Evaluations

You will meet with your manager in alignment with our fiscal year to discuss accomplishments and priorities four times per fiscal year.
