Description
Albion College invites applications for a two-year appointment in Physics at the Visiting Assistant Professor level to begin in August 2024. Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in Physics or a related field and be able to teach introductory and advanced physics courses with labs, including Electronics, and additional general education courses. ABD candidates will be considered. We seek candidates who have demonstrated teaching excellence and a passion for dynamic teaching, committed mentorship of students, and the liberal arts.
Faculty in the Physics Department have backgrounds in biophysics, quantum physics, engineering, electronics, astronomy and planetary science. Collaborations with off-campus colleagues are encouraged; large universities such as the University of Michigan, Michigan State, and Western Michigan University are within easy driving distance of Albion.
Albion is dedicated to the highest quality in undergraduate education led by our teacher-scholar faculty. Our teacher-scholar model creates a vibrant community that cherishes faculty and student relationships and faculty scholarly contributions. Albion College has a strong undergraduate research program that provides summer research stipends for students and modest stipends for faculty. The College also has a Faculty Development funding program to which visiting faculty can apply.
We encourage applications from individuals who will help us create a more inclusive Albion College by showing interest in developing inclusive pedagogy to address the needs of a diverse student body and, when possible, further diversifying the faculty and/or demonstrating experience with successful diversity-related initiatives, creative activity, or research. We particularly welcome applications from candidates committed to mentorship and to the promotion of equity and inclusion through their research, teaching, and/or service. We are open to candidates who have had non-traditional career paths, taken time off for family reasons, or achieved excellence in careers outside academia. We are especially interested in candidates who will contribute to a campus climate that supports equity, diversity, and belonging.
Albion College is an anti-racist institution. The person in this position will actively promote diversity, belonging and equity in all of their interactions with others on campus, especially historically marginalized students, faculty, and staff (e.g., those who are historically under-represented, first-generation, undocumented and DACA, LGBTQ, and BIPOC).
