- It's important when you work cross-departmentally to understand the audience that you are communicating to. So when you walk in a room right away, and it could be a figurative room, this doesn't need to be like an actual room, but when you walk into the room, you need to understand the audience and adjust how you need to speak. Are you talking to a group that wants more of a high level overview and a quick snapshot of where everything is? Are you talking to maybe a group who wants lots of details? Are you talking to a group who doesn't want to talk at all? Actually, they just want a bulleted email list and that's it. This is the part where you need to adjust your communication style and what you communicate based on who you're communicating to. When working with teams that are a little bit more reclusive, maybe they're a little bit more introverted, a little bit more shy, I like to initially reach out via email.
