- Lines are the essence of any drawing and anything we see in a technical drawing is made of a series of lines. There are different types of lines and different ways of creating them. A single line may represent many things in a drawing, like the edge of an object or the muntins in a window, or the striping on pavement and roads. When you put a few lines together, you can begin creating shapes. Simple shapes like squares and rectangles can represent many real-life objects, like walls, furniture, or even machine parts. So naturally, drawing a good line is the first skill that you ought to master. For this task I'll be using some simple tools. I've got a sheet of drafting velum taped down to my drawing board already. I'm just going to use a simple straight edge. My 30, 60, 90 triangle and I'm not really interested in the angles right now.
