- [Instructor] Anytime I talk about search engines, people seem to know one thing, that the algorithm changes. What many don't realize is that the algorithm changes daily in order to continually refine and improve the results. But every few years, Google releases a major update and it's important to know and track these updates as they give us a clue to future changes. In 2011, one of the earliest updates was called Panda. Google reduced or removed thin or shallow content. This is content that's largely duplicated across multiple pages in the same domain. Panda also focused on attributing authority to original content and penalized websites that over-optimized with excessive use of keywords, a practice known as keyword stuffing. A year later, Google released Penguin. This update targeted search engine optimizers who attempt to fool Google by creating false relevance.
