Using categories and tags
- One of the things that make posts in WordPress so powerful is how easy it is to organize your content and then manipulate that content based on its metadata. Two examples of this are categories and tags. Categories are best used for broad groupings. For example, if you have a recipe blog, you may want to create categories for breakfast, entrees, desserts, etc. Any recipe you post will then be assigned to one of those categories. Categories have hierarchy, meaning that you can have subcategories inside of main categories, but all posts have to have at least one category or WordPress will automatically assign them the Uncategorized category. Tags are more useful for specific topics that you want to use to connect related content across and inside of categories. Tags also help with things like search functions. For example, this post is in the Houseplant category, but its tags include more specific things, like How To…
