It’s exciting to see how technology is reshaping our work environments. From enhancing remote collaboration to streamlining routine tasks, this shift allows employees to dedicate more time to meaningful aspects of their roles, such as delivering patient care or innovating new products. With that said, it’s also important to recognize the value of connecting with employees on a personal level. Direct dialogue can often reveal insights and understanding that wouldn't be considered in an automated process. Thank you, Paola Peralta for including me in this Employee Benefit News article that explores various ways technology has revolutionized the workplace and how organizations can leverage these tools to their fullest potential. https://lnkd.in/gxRCspgr #HRTech #Automation #AI

Expert in Customer Experience (CX) & Voice of the Customer (VoC) practices. Tracking COVID-19 and its continuing impact on health, the economy & business.
Some people think #AI will take jobs. Others think it will create them. They're both right, to a point, but I think the AI optimists who think this impact will be neutral need a dose of reality. This article notes that "According to a recent report of 750 business leaders using AI, 37% say the technology replaced workers in 2023. Meanwhile, 44% report that there will be layoffs in 2024 resulting from AI efficiency." That's a pretty telling data point considering how nascent AI is at most organizations (and the fact Gartner has #GenAI at the peak of Inflated Expectations in its Hype Cycle: https://lnkd.in/guk5bmet.) The obvious and indisputable thing about AI and employment is that the impact will be uneven. Not every person whose job is replaced by AI has the skills to become a prompt engineer. Whether it's handling customer service calls, analyzing data, producing content, or driving a vehicle, AI is coming for your job--or large portions of it, at least. So often, the debate about AI and jobs is framed around specific AI use cases or capabilities. Instead, I'd like to make a simple economic argument based on two related economic truths: Supply and demand tend to come to equilibrium, and the economy is a closed-loop system. What happens when a new method of production arrives that takes portions of people's jobs and increases employee productivity? The AI optimists will tell you it frees people from drudgery in their jobs, opening up more time and opportunities to be productive. That's a nice bit of fiction, but that's not how the real world (or the economy) works. In fact, if every company can make many employees more productive by shifting some job duties from expensive humans to efficient AI, there are two possible outcomes. Companies are not going to pay people to do less work, so either: - Companies invest more in AI while keeping the same number of people, ask more of employees (to fill in for the work shifted to AI), and sell more, or - They decrease headcount If every company sees efficiency improvements from AI, they can't all simply sell more because the economy is a closed-loop system. If people spend more of their disposable income acquiring cars, then they have less to buy phones or streaming services. It is an impossibility that every company can invest more dollars in AI, embrace the efficiency benefits of AI, keep everyone employed, and make it up with increased sales. Something has to give, and in the next decade, what's going to give is a lot of jobs and careers. The more we can get past optimistic fiction and face reality, the better people, companies, and governments can plan for AI's impact on employment. https://lnkd.in/ghCmjMfC
