IWD2020

There should not be a need for this day, yet here we are celebrating it. Every day should be a chance to celebrate women. Every day should be a chance to say thank you to the women in our lives. Every day should be a chance to place the women in our lives on a pedestal and celebrate all they do for us. One day, I am confident, we will have this. Until then, happy International Women's Day.

2020 will be a year to overcome challenges. BIG challenges to our country, smaller challenges in our community, and challenging myself, all of which require conscious change.

In this spirit, I’m challenging myself physically and emotionally like I’ve never done before by running a 50K (32 miles) and 50-mile ultramarathon. Personally, stretching myself to extremes while managing changes such as a growing family, starting a new job, and other life commitments nurture my ‘adrenaline junkie’ spirit. More importantly, it teaches my young girls the value of hard work and dedication to run disturbingly early in the morning and late in the cold, rainy Pacific Northwest to create change.

When I posed these races to Michele she challenged me to make this bigger than overcoming my own physical shortcomings, to make it bigger than our family and leverage the runs as vehicles to take on BIG challenges I see in the world today. She was right. As a father of two girls, women’s health and their right to choose what happens to their bodies is paramount to our family. Planned Parenthood is the nation’s leading provider of high-quality, affordable health care for women and constantly under attack by this administration among other right-wing groups. Our family will be donating $15 for each mile completed, and $10 for each mile missed throughout these two races.

If you believe in a woman’s right to healthcare and feel compelled to donate to this cause, please click on the GoFundMe link below. Thank you for your support.
