Sora Sets the Internet on 🔥

Sora Sets the Internet on 🔥

Sora. Wow. 👀

OpenAI has done it again–minute-long videos from simple text prompts. This innovation extends the frontier of generative AI, showing glimpses into a future where seeing is no longer believing and offering creators,  storytellers, and randos like me a powerful new tool to bring visions to reality.

Watch this video and tell if me you believe it.

As OpenAI navigates the path to Skynet, they also acknowledge the challenges, opting for a cautious release by limiting access to Sora for safety testing and feedback from select creators. Holler at your boy 🙋🏻.

Let's check the data on this.

What's the data say?

High-five to the OpenAI PR team. The hockey stick growth is holding strong. Most of the conversation and media coverage is positive. There was some critical commentary, but nothing that would keep me up at night.

When will the hype die down?

The dark blue bubble below is OpenAI's tweet (or post?) introducing the world to Sora. 38.5M views and counting.

The map shows how the content spreads throughout the day. Notice the increase between 10:14 and 1:14 AM? That's our friends in Europe and Asia waking up to the news.

Below is a sample of responses and posts that drove high engagement and reach. This one below had me rollin' hard.

This one is from Tom Warren and the Verge.

The two below were published by Kira. The first one was just after the announcement and had a similar sentiment to the one above.

This one was published later in the evening.

Notice how Kira's post (the blue bubble) continues to drive engagement throughout the evening and into the morning. This is how content "goes viral." I hate that word.

I can only imagine the political deep fakes coming right before the election. Get your popcorn out. 🍿

The Media's Influence

There wasn't much media coverage today, but let's be clear. The media plays a significant role in shaping opinions and spreading information, even if the data tells a different story.

Here are the top stories from yesterday:
