    Collaborating with Arizona Entrepreneurs!

Economic Development has many layers. In addition to attracting and recruiting companies from outside of the community, we also must focus on building businesses and economic development from within our community. Small businesses have always been important to the local economy. They contribute to the local economy, as they typically purchase products and services locally for their business, and personally shop at other locally-owned businesses. Across the US, there has been a recent focus in entrepreneurship. One definition I found and appreciate is, ‘an entrepreneurial community is a community that intentionally acts to cultivate and support entrepreneurs and small businesses. The City of Peoria, Arizona has been doing that! Among the various partnerships we have engaged, for the past six years the City of Peoria has partnered with the Edson Entrepreneurship + Innovation Institute at Arizona State University. Also referred to as Peoria Forward, this partnership has resulted in diverse programming in the community (held at accessible locations for Peoria residents), flexible pathways of support to meet the unique demographics and needs of Peoria (whether you’re a HS entrepreneur, small businesses or high growth venture) and global best practices (among other things). Supporting local businesses and entrepreneurial development, researching relevant training, grants and other resources available for our existing businesses takes a TEAM. Today I want to shout out and recognize some of the many faces behind the Edson Entrepreneurship + Innovation Institute team working among our communities in Arizona. And to several key people that have been focused in the Peoria community, I Thank you Alexa Ruona, Eric Heimbecker and Kristin Slice for all you do! Thank you also to Kimberly R. and Dalena N. for your continual support at events in Peoria!

  • Help us spread the word. In partnership with MAG we have once again kicked off the Heat Relief Regional Network program. Each year, MAG coordinates the mapping of the Heat Relief Network, a network of partners providing hydration stations, refuge locations, and water donation sites throughout the Valley with the goal of preventing heat-related illnesses and deaths among vulnerable populations. The map and directories are updated as new partners sign up throughout the summer season, which runs May 1 to September 30. Interested in becoming a Heat Relief Network partner?
